Help phone shuts down when unplugged

Hi,my htc desire phone which is 2.5yrs old shuts down itself when i stop charging.It works fine while charging.and battery charges to 100%.But when i unplug the charger phone also goes.what to do now.

Sounds like the battery has had it! If you can replace the battery do so, if not I would think that the phone is now ready for the recycling bin!

Luckily you have time to back everything up now, before the battery completely dies.
