I'm running a 3 week old Galaxy 2 and as the title says it suddenly shut down and would not come back up, had to pull the battery. It's have 3 times in two days. Anyone have any idea what causes this?

Hi

If your phone is on its original 4.1.1 software it could be a problem associated with a memory bug in the exynos chip. The is an app to check this. It only affected a minority of phones.

If it is affected an up date to 4.1.2 should sort it. If not updated it will fail eventually. In these cases I believe samsung have changed the motherboard under warranty.

This may well not be this issue but I thought I would mention it.

As your phone is new I would take it back for replacement if the behaviour continues.

Hi Roger
I'm running 4.3.Could it be a thermal issue after running GPS for an hour in the car dock?

That should not be the issue of your problem, I have run GPS for hours with no issues at all.

Give us a little more info your setup, we now know you are on 4.3, are you rooted ?? Have you installed any apps lately since this has been happening ??, Have you check your chipset as Roger mentioned ??, that does make a difference. The more info you give us the better sense we will have and able to guide you.

Also was the phone purchased new from a dealer, eBay, or an online vendor ?? Or was it purchased use 3 weeks ago ??

Hi Don
I ran Exnoscheck. and my device does not have it. I bought new from Best buy although the top of the box did not have the picture of the phone like.some do. Otherwise it seemed right. I have many apps that I have used on previous phones...The only new ones are "Clean Sweep", Adobe Flash 11.1" and "I bolt dock and drive".

Hi again

Glad ts not exynos!

If you suspect its getting very hot, install GSam Battery Monitor and monitor it for a days or two.

My other thought is that it may be an intermittent battery connection. Check for dirt etc on the connectors (shouldn't be any as its new).

You could try removing the apps one a time and seeing if that has any affect.

Hi Roger,
Already have GSAM on there. I've noticed I'm going through the battery faster the last few days. GSAM says it "Exchange Services". I'm not sure why Exchange would suddenly stary using Battery. I've had it in place from day one. While I'm asking questions, I installed "Cleaned Sweep" yesterday. Is this a problem app? It says "57%" but I'm not sure what that means...
Matt

Hi

What is cleaned sweep? Can't identify it in playstore. If its using 57% of your battery that's a lot! Usually only the screen uses that much. Try uninstalling it and run without it. You can always put it back.

Maybe he means "Clean Master" ?

Be careful with clean master it has been know to cause issues if not use properly I had it a while back and stopped using it. Try Uninstalling and see what happens. Use cache cleaner if you want.

OK I've gotten rid of Clean Master. When I press and hold the home button am I cleaning the cache or is that something different? Forgive me for not being an expert on this stuff. I just want to make sure the phone continues to run as it should.
