Phone slow . . . sometimes

On a bad day the time and battery indication on the phone stop often. Not the SYSTEM time or SYSTEM battery. System time stays accurate but the battery widget time may be behind for 50 minutes. (tried 3 time widgets. Same result.) Battery widget indicator may be off (fast) by 10% - that is, system battery shows 60%, widget show 50%. In the last few days, my battery drops to 30% in 6-7 hours of normal use. Prior to this slowing, my phone in normal use would last a day.

Scrolling text has a 2-3 second delay. Apps take 5-15 seconds to open. Adding a widget to a screen takes 5 minutes, literally, for the widget to appear on the scree. On 3 ocassions I've seen the downloading icon? in the status bar run for 4-5 hours, again literally, though I have no idea what is being downloaded.

On a 'good' day my phone keeps good time MOST of the time but is 4-8 minutes slow the other times - cycling between correct and slow. Text scrolling is slow. Apps take 5-15 seconds to open. When I turn on my phone, I get a blank screen 5-10 seconds before I see any icons.

Ideas please.

I would definitely do a factory reset if not done so. That usually fixes all the problems on mine because it might be a certain app that is causing it. If it is under warranty(which it probably isn't), then you can get a free replacement.

Yeah it will but not pics if they are saved on a Micro SD card. Nor music. But you can just download your apps again in no time. :)

Sounds unpleasant. Will factory reset erase all apps/data on my phone? Must I start over?

Make sure you have a backup like with helium backup. Than it's just a piece of cake to get everything back. And also make sure all media files like pictures and video's are on your SD card.

Also save your contacts on googles cloud service.

Yeah Google contacts are extremley helpful, especially when switching between phones. Or in your case, factory resetting.

Mine used to be occasionally laggy, too until i pinpointed the cause being Go launcher kept being killed by the system when running certain apps causing it to redraw and a momentary lapse in response. Also screen rotation seems to make some Widgets reload too. Try enabling system persistent and disabling screen rotation in settings

Ya make sure you back your phone up before the factory reset. It will make it a lot easier when setting your phone back up. I have found that my phone runs slow when the RAM is below 100 MB. Most of the time, I just use the stock task manager to end all 3rd party apps I'm not using or power down my phone. In both cases, it fixes the problem.
