Help phone system back up

I recently had to do a system restore, at the instruction of the htc people. As I expected it would the phone needed all my personel settings re doing.
With my pc I do a windows back up, that tbh I have never tested in reallity, but as I understand it all things/settings/programs etc are replaced as was if the restore is used.
Is it possible to make a copy of the entire phone system and settings ?
My phone isn't rooted.
Maybe there is an app that someone can reccomend ? Any ideas ?

You can try Mybackup Pro. You have to pay for it, but it can recover a fair bit of stuff, with the right backup done first.

Its the best non-root option. If you're on froyo, you can get temproot with visionary+ (no warranty issues, lost at reboot) and use titanium backup as its better than mybackup

Forgot to say thanks. Trying them later tonight. For what its worth I got in touch with htc and they couldn't off er any solution. am I the only one who finds the lack of total back up/restore bewildering. Maybe there is more to it than my untrained eye can see

Cheers

Loaded my Back up pro and it is a doddle. Even for me.

What advantages would I gain if I rooted my phone ? Must confess I don't like messing with what I don't understand, and if the advantages are minimal I shall remain unrooted.

As none of these back up apps are a total fix it would be good to know exactly what it is they can't re set so you know where to dive if a re set is needed ?

In regards to backups, you can take an entire snapshot of the device at a point in time.

As for other advantages, read the rooting faq in my signature :)

I am using HTC Desire, but I felt disappointed that I could not upgrade from Adroid 2.2 to 2.3 gingerbread. I have try to sync to my Laptop it also does not work. Anyone of the HTC Desire users, please share with me your experience and knowledge. please send me an email via sok.savuth@gmail.com. I would appreciated if someone be able to help me out of this problem. Thanks and regards,

First for Suroot. Thanks for the tip. Having read your report on rooting I nearly pood my pants. Leave well alone. Cheers mate.

Regarding the syncing. I had problems with this also. Spoke with HTC and they ended up getting me to do a factory reset. Which cured the problem. I will email you the long list of other solutions they suggested, which in my case didn't work, but may in your case. For what its worth I found the telephone support very good at HTC. email follows
