Phone Theft / Remote Tracking / Security without SMS?

Because I only use google voice for texting, I politely asked Verizon to completely disable all texting to my Droid 2 (rooted) phone number.

I've seen many free, remote based security programs that allow you to lock your phone and track it by sending it a series of SMS messages. By "track it" I mean that you can activate GPS remotely (I think) and then find it's physical location.

I need a solution that either a) works with google voice or b) ?

I'm hoping some of you have a suggestion or can point me in the right direction.

Lookout doesn't seem to work with GV.

I sort of think most of them won't, GV is good for straight texting but falls short for some things...like this. I haven't tried the texting part of Lookout though...

I found a thread elsewhere that suggests making use of Tasker, which I'm willing to try (always wanted to buy that app!) ... however, feel free to keep this thread alive for the sake of those who don't want to pay for SMS and are 100% GV.

I'm trying to solve the same problem. Every single GPS tracking app I've seen works through SMS, which I've disabled due to spam (costing me money each time) and because I don't text.

Kaspersky has a mobile app that works with or without SMS.

Avast Mobile Security does what you want. It is free and works without SMS or phone service. You don't need to be rooted, but if you're rooted you can even install the security app in the system folder so that it can't be removed through a factory reset.
