phone turns ringer on automatically?

i use the alarm on my phone almost every night. I also leave my phone on vibrate most of the time. The problem i am having is that i will go to bed with my phone in vibrate mode but when i take it off the charger in the morning (after the alarm goes off) it turns my ringer back on. Granted its usually at the lowest volume but still i would like for it to stay in vibrate mode. Is there a way to do this?
Also is there a way to go completely into silent mode by pressing the volume keys? It would be nice if i could just press volume down once in vibrate mode and it would change to silent mode.

I highly recommend using AudioManager to manage your Android volume levels. I have a sleep, work, and home profile icon on my desktop so I can fast switch.
