Help Phone unable to charge fast enough to keep up with tethering

I tethered my Droid Razr Maxx to my computer and after 3 hours it had dropped 20% in battery life. After contacting Motorola and being upgraded to a tier 2 tech support. I was told to completly charge my phone since I jsut got it today and then try again. OK so knowing that that isnt going to make a difference I have a few questions. Does An AC wall charger have more power in it than the USB port on my computer. What I would like to know is what the phone is rated at voltage wise for its intake. Say for ex ac output is 1000 and usb port on computer is 500 but the phones rated for 800. *Just throwing around numbers to help explain my question. Then obviously the USB port is under powered. If thatts the case would using a Y adapter *2 male 1 female make a difference in the amount of juice that I can supply to my phone being I would have 2 usbs pluged into the computer running to the phone to charge it. So what I really need is someone who knows Max Output of AC charger, Max Output of USB computer Port power, And max Intake of a Droid Razr MAXX. Thanks in advance.

Yes, generally the wall charger will supply significantly more power that the USB port on your computer. Look for a 1amp charger to get the quickest charge.

Thanks Hoppy. One other question. I am looking at two male Usb to 1 female USB. The Max output for 1usb port on a computer is 500mah. So if I use two USB ports to one female connector ill get 1000mah. My question. What is the Max mah a phone can handle?

I'm not certain about those two-into-one cables, but I did use one for a USB backup drive for faster data transfer + power.

As for Max power, I'd say likely about an amp. I don't think you'll find anything out there to charge mobile devices for more than 1.2 amp or so.

I shopped around to find the highest powered ac charger I could. I ended up with a Griffin wall charger rated at 2.1 amps and it only has one usb port, so it should be 2.1 amps through only 1 usb port. I believe the phone controls the charging, not the wall charger. Thus, if the phone can take 2 amps, it will and then taper it off as needed. I don't think you can have an over powered charger amp wise. If you get an over temperature warning like when you charge it in the sun with the GPS going on the car dash, the phone stops the charging, not the charger. I'm a fan of the largest/fastest charger you can get and let the phone decide what to do with the power.

I'm sorry, I said 1.2amp but was thinking 2.1amp. That is, I do believe, the same sizel/capacity I'm using for my iPad and I'm able to use it from my iPhone also. Glad to know they make one for micro USB too.
