Phone uses ringtone when i get a text...

Trying to find out why my phone is playing the ringtone when I get an sms and not the notification sound. (having a song play every single time you get a text message is annoying if you understand where I'm coming from) Any way to fix this? Whenever I receive a call, I want it to play the song, and when I receive a text message, I want it to play the notification tone.

Double check the notification settings in your SMS app.

Sometimes I have to dig around for hours through all the notification settings in each and every app to get my phone 'just right'.

Today, my messaging app (the standard one that came with the phone) decided to change the notification sound when i get a text. I have Android Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, thru AT&T. So now, instead of a nice simple "ding", I get some annoying woman's voice attempting to say who each text is from. Anyone know how this got changed?
I have went into the "settings" in the texting app. My notification sound appears to still be the "ding". Something, somewhere, is overriding this??? I dont think I updated any of my apps.
Help please.

You've accidentally activated "Driving Mode". Open the Voice Talk application and tap "Driving Mode" (the green light below it will turn off).
