Phone + Water = Fail

Distant

Newbie
My significant other has managed to expose phone #2 to water.
We have it in a bag of Uncle Ben's rice at the moment. It turns on but the keys do funny things (ie. you press 1 and get a few other digits with it).

Any suggestions or stories of success?
Phone is an Env3.

I can't say this will work for a 'computerish' phone, but my dh jumped in the swimming pool with his blackberry still on his hip last year. We took the battery out and shook out what water we could, then put the phone (NOT the battery) in the dishwasher on the 'plate warmer' or the drying cycle. He's still using it today. ;) Good luck!

The battery is out right? If not remove it now...

I dropped a phone in a toilet once and needed it relatively soon after so instead of soaking it in rice I took it apart and dried it with paper towel and cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. You want something very pure, like 90% or higher.

It's a good sign that it powered on, but don't try again for some time. It can take a few days to dry.

The battery was removed immediately. I'll advise the girl to leave it in the bag of rice for a few more days prior to trying it out again.

ouch, depending on how wet it got...the rice trick might be your only way to go. other than going on craigslist and getting a different one!

There really needs to be a stick in every phone forum for this.

When you get your phone wet, IMMEDIATLY remove the battery. Whether you use rice or not, let it dry for DAYS not hours. Do not try to turn it back on or replace the battery until at least 3 days have passed.

Sorry for this newbie question but what does a bag of rice have to do with drying a phone? Does the rice help take water out of the phone or something?

I've never done it. But from the way people talk, it sems the rice is so dry, it'll suck the moisture from the phone like a sponge.
