Help Phone won't charge

i wonder if it's an app causing it, as the charging symbol appears, it shows it's charging, but i just won't charge any further

after battery removal, closing all apps etc it remedies it

so i'm wondering if an app is using too much power

I had an issue on my Sony Z1 where the phone would take an age to charge if I had Facebook Messenger installed.

What apps do you have installed that might be running in the background, eating battery?

only Facebook really, & normal messaging apps like Whatsapp, FB Messenger, etc

it's strange it seems to be worse at certain parts of the day, or i might be imagining it because i'm paranoid about it now lol

like now it's doing it at the moment

If you suspect an app is draining your battery, go to "Settings ! Battery & power saving ! Battery usage" for a sorted list of the percentage of battery capacity that has been used recently by each app and system component ("Display" usually tops that list). You could also run an app like "Ampere" (available in the app store) that tells you the actual current net amperage, negative if discharging, positive if charging. This will let you see the effect of plugging in your charger (which should normally take the number well into the positive range, but might not if something is draining the battery faster than the charger can replenish it). Finally, you could also run something like ES Task Manager (app store again) to see what apps are currently running, with the option to kill the ones you don't need -- running it will let you see whether some installed apps are running "uninvited" -- one of the most powerful, yet annoying, feature of Android is the myriad ways that a program can register itself to be triggered (launched/activated) based on system events (like startup, WiFi on or off, volume up or down, etc.), with very little user control of these apps and triggers unless the device is rooted. It's almost impossible to keep an app that really wants to run from running, short of uninstalling abusive apps.

Jacques.
