Phone won't recognize SOME videos, but they still play...?

I have a few videos that my phone does NOT see as video media.
They do not show up in the gallery or built in video player, but they DO show up in Astro & BSPlayer.
Also, some of the videos that ARE recognized (and do show up in the built in video player) do not have a thumbnail view.

Does anybody know anything about this??
The codecs of the files all vary as I was experimenting to find supported/unsupported codecs.
The files not recognized as media are MPG videos: Mpeg1 video / mp2 audio

I need the system to recognize the files as media so I can use a locking app to lock it. I've tried a few and none of them will lock the unrecognize vids.

Any ideas?? Anybody??

have you tried moboplayer? not really sure what you mean by lock it.....
