Phone won't stop charging

VincentAnoid

My Galaxy Nexus won't stop showing up as charging. Even when I've disconnected all the cable it still shows up as "Charging" or "Not Charging", I haven't seen "Discharging" in a while now. I've tried lifting the USB prong upwards (towards the screen) and I've tried swabbing it with some surgical spirit. Two suggestions/solutions found on the forums showing similar issues. Sometimes my phone would wake up as well, as if I plugged the cable/charger in.

Whoa that's one of the coolest battery graphs I've seen mate.
Any other time I've seen something like that it's been a soft/firmware issue. Sorry I can't be more help

Awh no worries :). I was thinking that until I saw loads of people having success with pricking their phone's micro USB port. I guess it has to be with that "Mobile network signal" shortage because I know I had signal during those times.

I'd like to create a 'Nandroid' or something that backs up everything on my phone so I can reflash the phone back to factory defaults before flashing it back again. I don't want to lose all my WhatsApp messages, App data etc. and have the trouble of refining my personal settings again.

Yeah I don't think the signal part should ever be blank like that unless maybe it was in airplane mode but you're sayin signal was fine? That's another sign that it's a software ting man
You rooted? That's the only way you can make a nandroid backup image mate but if what you're saying is you wana make a nandroid, wipe the phone, restore the nandroid,, that would be pointless.
What you maybe wanna do is root, use a backup app like titanium, wipe the phone, restore your apps and their data.
You'd still have to set up all the phone settings again but that's a surprisingly quick thing to do man honestly if you just work your way down the settings menu

Nah I'm not rooted, I'm not really sure how to root and I never liked the idea of it lol. Having to install some software on my computer that runs commands on my phone.

I have heard of Titanium Backup as a way of creating Nandroids but I dunno, I might have created the firmware problem myself. I went travelling around London (those red bars are on the underground) and when I did, a lot of photos were taken with my phone. The wake button was constantly being pressed. I never had this charging issue prior to this. No apps were installed that day either.

PS: I don't like going through my settings. I get perfectionism, so it can be very stressful for me :o:)

A "Nandroid" backup is a feature of a replacement recovery, which can only be installed once you've rooted. link

Titanium Backup requires root for full capability.

FWIW, my Moto X doesn't say "discharging", only "not charging".

Yeah titanium is very different from a nandroid backup. It only backs up apps and their data files and it actually reinstalls the apps when you restore the backup.
A full nandroid backs up everything, system, apps, etc and doesn't actually reinstall the apps, it restores the OS with the apps already installed in it

Something you need to know with a nexus as well is to root and flash custom recovery you have to unlock the bootloader and the process of unlocking it wipes the phone so titanium isn't gonna help there.
Imo it's best to unlock a device like that as soon as you get it.
The Helium backup app is a good option because it doesn't require root

So Helium is basically Titanium without the need of root then isn't it really? And I never really saw a need to root my phone to begin with, loved the ROM (stock) and everything about it out of the box.

Well Titanium has a lot more features, like freezing apps, etc.

^...but yeah, ive never used it but helium will back up and restore your apps and their settings/data/game progress the same as titanium does.
I think you have to use it with a PC though whereas titanium is self contained

Helium is self contained. The PC thing is only needed if you are unrooted. You need to connect and activate only once, and you don't need a PC to backup or restore anymore unless you restart the phone. It's just needed for app activation to open a channel for the app to access adb in unrooted phones. If you are rooted, no need for PC access.

Why is the pc part needed mate, what does it actually do that the android device itself can't do?
I don't like pcs so I like to think that they aren't necessary :)

It runs a shell process via ADB that allows the app access to things a non-root app isn't normally allowed to get at. The process is left in memory so Titanium Helium can work without the PC unless you restart the phone.

You mean Helium. :-)

Yup. It's basically a work around root requirement of backups.

I was thinking of its original name "Carbon" as well. Now that (sort of) made sense, as in "carbon copy" - but "Helium"?

"Titanium" never made sense to me as a name for a backup app either, but it works so what do I care what it's called :-)

Carbon was changed due to copyright issues. But as for the new name, meh, don't understand either.

Weird that; "carbon" is a dictionary word and the complainant had no related product with that name. Now IANAL but I would have held my ground on that one - surely nobody can put a blanket copyright on a word like "carbon" no matter what the product may be.

Had there already been a similar piece of software with the same name that would be a different matter.

Dammit I'd never thought about the element thing but now I won't be able to stop :D
I'm running Carbon rom on my phone but it's open source so it wouldn't have been them

The complainant was "Carbonite Software" who do produce backup software, but nothing called "Carbon".

I doubt their case would have held water but Koush clearly had better things to do than argue the toss with tosspots :-)
