Well, that's a very interesting app. I note from their web that SSL support has been removed for now (until the Beta ends, and that there are no published updates per the web since February (1.0.16) but the Market says yep, 1.0.17) and that -

PhoneMyPC's Beta program gives the Android community an opportunity to participate in final development on Android's most full-featured PC Remote app. During the program, purchasers are treated to a reduced price, and the PhoneMyPC team has the pleasure of their feedback, suggestions and comments.

From - SoftwareForMe.com - PhoneMyPC

I just have a few questions:

  1. What does this give you that AndroidVNC doesn't?
  2. What does this give you that LogMeIn doesn't?
  3. Are you in any way associated with SoftwareForMe?
  4. When are you expecting restoration of SSL communications?
  5. Can you say what the final price is going to be?

PhonemyPC Shill?

And these questions would be nice to have answers too. Thanks.

lol, hope you werent referring to me.

No matter, softwareforme is registered here andhas answered quite a few questions on the thread linked in my earlier post.

im in the logmein beta but i know they'll start charging monthly at the end of it. If this is a $9.99 one time fee I'd be interested to hear more.

i also need to be assured theres no monthly/yearly fee. that 10 bucks might just be for the app.

I certainly hope not, cause thats a game changer right there.

**searching so far everything indicates no monthly fees, however I havnt found anything directly from them that says there wont be.

This is an excerpt of their site for "power users" tends to suggest us regular folk may not have them. Id feel more comfortable however if it did explicitly say somewhere no monthly fees.
Power User Support

We know that some users have a higher level of need than most. IT staff, for example, may use programs like PhoneMyPC to remotely manage large numbers of PC's. Likewise, these people need all features to work, even when there is no direct-connect path (specifically: Remote Control).
We will provide a service that will allow all features--present and future--to work all the time, from anyplace. This plan would also support many more PC's (in stead of the current limit of three).
This service, when available, will be provided for a small recurring monthly fee.

rick ill leave it to you to update the thread with what ya find, ill be following it to see what you come up with

I sent an e-mail just a short while ago to enquire about it, will post their reply if/once received.

I gonna go peruse the droid forums where they frequent cause I'm sure the question has been asked before.

As a side note while searching for phonemypc monthly fee I came across a comment by softwareforme on a comparison to logmein C&P:

I can compare them.
Ignition uses a technology similar to RDP: it renders content on the phone rather than transfering image data. Thus, for basic windows stuff it will probably perform better than PhoneMyPC on 3G. However, it consumes so much CPU (and presumably battery) power that the back of the phone becomes hot.
Ignition allows you to log-in to a PC, but PhoneMyPC is missing this feature until the next release.
PhoneMyPC outperforms Ignition dramatically when displaying graphics content such as photos or video.
Neither app has sound or file transfer. LogMeIn traditionally requires a monthly payment for sound or file transfer; PhoneMyPC has promised to provide those for free in the next few releases.
PhoneMyPC has many convenience features, such as passive viewing (for monitoring a PC), control-pad like control (for giving presentations), process and window control (for techies and diagnostics) and more.
PhoneMyPC has a much smoother UI feel with kinetics and smoother scrolling.
LogMeIn (maker of Ignition) is a well established company with lots of money, mediocre support and an established reputation.
SoftwareForMe (maker of PhoneMyPC) is a new, small group of Android geeks, provides excellent support and has no reputation to speak of (other than what has been earned through PhoneMyPC)

For some reason mine wont work. Set my PC up, but my phone still does not find it. Tried WiFi and 3G.

Nevermind, typo in the username. This app is AMAZING!

Mine didnt originally show up either, quit the program and re-entered the credentials and it worked fine. Might try changing the user name and password both on the phone and pc to see if it helps.

I received this reply from them at 8pm

Hi Rick,

The purchase fee is one time. You will not be charged more.

We may sell premium services some day in the future, but they will neither cost you (unless you opt to purchase them separately), nor change the features that you now own for your current purchase.

By the way: we are sorry for the delay. We are usually a lot faster than this, but we are overwhelmed today.

Please feel free to send us comments or questions, any time!

Warm regards,
The PhoneMyPC Team
SoftwareForMe Inc.

I can tell you that this is lightening fast over wireless, though over 3g it is perhaps bearable. Remote web cam does not work over 3g

I just wish you could save the log in info for multiple computers......I have 2 computers setup and i n have to go into settings and change the log in info everytime to switch computers....Unless im blind and cant see the setting
