PhoneWeaver vs Smart Actions

I have been using PhoneWeaver for years both on Windows Mobile and Android. It has many of the features that Smart Actions has like trigger based changes location, WIFI, power connect, battery level, and others. It can turn off/on data, GPS, WIFI, sounds, screen, and others. It can even change wallpaper.

It has always been very reliable to me and has good support.

I thought I would post so people can give it try if they are looking to compare or check out other alternatives.

Maybe for some, it would be a better solution.

Thanks for the post. After using Smart Actions...it shed some light on apps like this, Tasker, Locale, etc.

I'm looking into some more too. I need something a lil better than Smart Actions.

Additionally ... it does not have many of the limitations that Smart Action has.

For instance, you do not need WIFI on for location based triggers and you can choose what the location is based on like Android location alerts, intelligent polling or Cell and APs polling.

You can also control the overriding of various profiles, assigning some with override capability and others that don't override.

You can set manual profiles that will time out when executed so that you can mute the phone quickly for 60 mins, etc.

For those that want more control over your profiles, this is great product. :)

Personally I moved from Smart Actions over to Tasker not long after getting the handset. Smart Actions is an interesting product and has potential but it's still somewhat immature as a product...

I have really taken a hard look at Tasker, but there is not a free "trial" version. I hate to drop $6.00 to try it out, but the functionality looks fantastic.

I tried to use Smart Actions but there were times it was not reliable and there were limits to what it would do well. To give Motorola some slack ... it is a new product and the idea was right on track. I suspect that over time they will improve to be a very good product.

For now I will continue using Phone Weaver.

Has anyone compared tasker to phoneweaver ? Does smart actions do anything that either of those products do not use ? I currently use smart actions because I hate giving (phone weaver for example) a third party app full accesss to my phone; but given the feature set it is tempting.

I have not used Tasker, but can say that I have used Phone Weaver and other products from SBSH Mobile Software for over 10 years and have not had any issues. They have great support and solid products. They were very popular and had a large customer base on Windows Mobile.

I would certainly feel comfortable in giving them access to the phone as much as any other company, including Motorola. ;)

After getting over its learning curve I prefer Tasker. Seems like it can do nearly everything I want it to do. I even found a way to have it automatically answer calls during certain hours from certain callers. :)

Form Tasker Ordering FAQ about Tasker's 7 day trial (http://tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html):

Is there a trial period ?

The Direct-Purchase version offers a 7 day trial period before any payment is necessary, and you can purchase the Direct-Purchase or Market version (delete the trial first for the Market version) when it expires.
If you feel that 7 days isn't long enough to evaluate Tasker, you can just delete it and reinstall to start a new trial.
