phoning an android and really communicating

I want to use an android to monitor and control a system and i want to communicate with it by phone without using VOIP.

I understand in the US market an android tablet can't function as a phone without VOIP.

So i want to bolt a phone to a small computer wired to a complex machine and get info on the machines activities.

Anything i try googleing gets buried in quesions about a simple USB/phone connection so it's hard to find meaningful info.

thanks

Dave

That shouldn't be too hard assuming that computer manages and monitors that complex machine of yours if that computer is connected to the internet. In that case simply install free Teamviewer on it (from Teamviewer.com) and on your phone (from the Play Store), and start up Teamviewer on the computer before you leave. If you then startup Teamviewer on your phone and establish the connection with your computer you can see everything on its screen and operate it remotely as if you sat in front of it. From wherever you are.
No extra phones required.

Could that be a solution?

Oops!
Teamviewer is free for personal use (= non-commercial)! But with that "complex machine" of yours your situation sounds more like a business. In that case it wouldn't be free.

But I suppose the Teamviewer gang wouldn't mind if you used the free version for a trial run.
