Apps Photo Handling

Hello guys, quick question for everyone: When you need to enable the user to capture an image or select an image from the gallery from within your application, do you use any libraries? If not, do you feel the code can get messy? Where do you feel the code gets messy? Also, how does everyone feel with uploading the captured image to a remote server? Can that turn into a headache too? Any opinions would be awesome!
