Photo quality???

IFlyEm

Newbie
So I am picked up a Spectrum and have been getting to know the device. All in all I really like the phone so far. One big question I have is the photo quality.

My fiance has an Samsung Galaxy S II. Both phones have 8 MP cameras. However, the quality difference is striking! The fill color and detail is seriously lacking on the Spectrum.

I also noticed that when I am taking 8 MP pics the file sizes are only 700 KB - 1.1 MB. On her S II they are all 2.3 MB - 2.5 MB. What am I missing here?

Thanks!

Have you checked the image dimensions? 8mp pics on my D2G never got larger than 1.5mb and are the same dimensions as my Spectrum, so my guess is the SII was taking larger pics.

i've noticed the quality is not that great. When i view the pic its nice, when I take the pic it developes a grainy hue to it. if i post the pics online they have a cloudy look to them no matter what pic size i choose.

Traded in my HTC Evo... Not sure I made a wise choice, I normally take 40-120 pictures a week with my Evo, so I will keep an eye on this phone and see what happens. I have noticed that the lens gets really warm while charging the phone, I hope it doesn't cook the camera...

I have noticed the "grey" overcast on the images, also the camera app snaps a shot and freezes the display as if that was the picture, then updates to about 800ms later and that is your actual picture. A bit annoying...

also, I don't like not being able to turn off the camera sounds. I do a lot of pictures of my sleeping baby and the camera sounds startle her awake if I forget to silence my phone first.

I am bothered by the inability to st a delay for the review it only offers on or off as options.

I like the 3 & 5 second timers, I always felt 2 was too short and there needed to be something else before 10 seconds.

I think the camera focuses fairly quickly also, which is a plus, and the zoom is nice, even if it is digital and not optical. I think it zooms in farther than the other Android devices I've used.

Just like in the post the photos are grainy and cloudy, I have uploaded them and edited them and doesn't help. Is there a certain button, or measurement of pixels I'm supposed to be on, this is my 3rd phone in 2 weeks and I told them I wanted the VERY BEST picture quality, and I feel I have been lied to by /VERIZON yet again.

One more quick question, which phone provider gives you the best service and has the best phones. I want out of verizon. I've been there for 8 yrs but since turning to the smart phone last
Feb, I had 17 phones and a LOT of HASSLe. pLEASE Help

Sincerely,

I'm no camera buff, but I think it does a great job. In low lighting it may lack a little, but I took a picture outside yesterday on a bright sunny day and it was gorgeous.

no issues with the camera here. i thinka lot of the issue is people using their phones as their main camera source so they are over analizing the photo'. I have a cople very nice digital cameras so when i need them. Always remeber this is a phone, not a dedicated camera.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm always amazed at the number of people who prefer to use a cell phone as their primary camera. Even a "cheap" $200 digital by Nikon or Canon will blow away any phone. I've not played around with the camera on my Spectrum much, but from what I've seen so far, I'm not impressed. It's more of a convenience thing for me, than a REAL camera.

Some things appear better and some worse than with my HTC Evo. Really sad they cannot fit a $0.75 CMOS chip in the phone instead of the $0.05 one they use in these phones. They have the same royalty fees too.

These are $600-$700 phones, not <$200 point and click cameras

only if you dont sign a 2 year agreement.. lmao. The $200 point and click camera is a dedicated device though. I would expect it to have better quality than a cell phone any day of the week, i dont care how much you paid for you phone.

I have a Canon a720is that I paid less then $200 for several years ago. It's a great little camera with pretty much full user control and the best part is Image Stabilization which makes low light and indoor photos much easier. I also have a nice Canon DSLR, but don't always want to carry around a large bag and extra lenses. Having said all of that, I would never leave home without a REAL camera if my intentions were to take photos that day....or thought something photogenic might happen. My phone is a phone/portable computer first. Camera only if bigfoot sneaks up on me or I see a UFO! I have friends who have ONLY taken their phones with them on vacation as their "camera". Their vacation photos, aren't worth the trouble of looking at!

Try a download like "lg camera" vs. the camera that comes with the phone. The settings on the phone camera gave an image I took a rather "grey" enhanced result, while the lg camera program resulted in something more natural and closer to the actual scene.

The thing is, these programs have many settings. Getting them setup just right for the best quality image capture can be a good amount of work.

Probably worthy of a tutorial written up by someone with some photography or videography experience (lg camera will also do video).
