Photo sync w/ Picasa and Google Plus, SD card full, odd question

A "chicken or the egg" scenario here...

I have Google + with auto upload enabled for photos taken on my phone. The auto upload feature is great and essential for me.

Here's the deal. I spend a few months taking photos and all of them, hundreds and hundreds, are properly uploaded so they're viewable on my desktop in Picasa Web Albums or Google Plus.

Having taken those hundreds and hundreds of photos, eventually my microSD card on my phone will fill up. So, periodically, I have to take a huge chunk of those photos that are on my phone and delete them from the microSD to free up space for more pics on my phone.

This is easily enough done. And to be safe, I always copy the photos to iPhoto on my Mac so I have a good backup of each one before deleting them from my phone.

But then, because the phone is synced with Picasa/Google+, all the images that have been deleted from the phone soon disappear from my webspace, and when I log in I notice that our entire collection of pics from our summer trip is gone from Picasa Web Albums.

Fortunately, since I had previously made copies of them in iPhoto, I can then re-upload them from iPhoto to Picasa for all of our sharing, printing, bookmaking, etc.

But what am I missing here? It seems like an absurd situation!

Probably the sync function reasonably assumes that since you deleted the photos from your phone, that you want to delete them from Picasa. You can just upload the photos from your PC to Picasa. They will be accessible to your phone but not stored on your phone. (At least that's the way it works for me.)

Why not sync photos with Dropbox first? You keep whichever you like and then upload to the server of your choice.
I do this and Dropbox sync does not delete photos from phone.

Yeah G+ sync is all good but dont use that as a cloud storage service mate. Check out the above advice
Personaly i use Dropbox to auto upload all my pics and 2GB is free but im not a big pic taker like you so you may have to pay for a service with more storage or just get into the habit of syncing to your pcs harddrive regularly or just use free cloud storage as like a safety buffer between backing up to pc

Thanks for the above responses...!

My newly-found approach, which I started today, is to try out Dropbox Automator:

Automate your Dropbox

...which looks like it will (pretty much) give me the same "instant-auto-upload" of my pictures, from Dropbox to Picasa, without having later changes/deletes of photos on the phone causing wholesale deletes of the files in my Picasa account.

I'll see how it goes. Has anyone else used this?
