Help Photon Infinite Reboot (Never rooted)

AfroLulz

Lurker
My Photon 4g is stuck in an infinite reboot even though I have never rooted it. Got the phone less than a week ago. I just got back to my dorm and wanted to get on the Android market to look for some apps. My 4G wasn't working properly so I tried doing a PRL update, which didn't fix the issue. So I tried restarting it, phone turns on just fine, I try turning 4G back on and then 1 second later my phone's screen shuts off, and it reboots. It continues to reboot over and over and will not do anything else.

From what I could gather on the internet, this is what happens when something goes wrong after rooting, but I have never rooted my device because I was too afraid of this happening (and my parents being out the 200$ they spent on my phone).

How do I fix this?

Will either Sprint replace my phone because of insurance or will Motorola cover it under warranty?

I have looked at the method of restoring the phone to the factory condition using RSD Lite and whatnot, but won't this cause me to lose all that I've put on it up to now? Plus, will I not need Sprint to reactivate it (would it cost anything)?

Should I take the phone to Sprint, or should I try fixing it with RSD lite?

Thank you to anyone who helps.

*sigh of relief*

Using the stock Android recovery system through fastboot worked and google is syncing all the important stuff as I type this.

I totally forgot that Android had a stock system recovery accessible outside the UI that can be used as long as you didn't corrupt your recovery file.

Not much need for this thread now.

This issue has nothing to do with rooting. The first batch that was released was pron to reboots, crashes, and other software issues. The updates helped some of it but the crashes and reboots are suspected to be with the battery. Hardware issue. I would recommend going to Sprint and asking for a replacement. That is what I did. I have no issues with the replacement. The Photon is a great phone but just as many others it has bugs to start with.

I know it had nothing to do with rooting, but it had the same symptoms of screwing up your system through root. I didn't want to explain my issue and have people just tell me I bricked my phone because of doing something wrong while root.

If it happens again then I'll probably take it to them and ask for another, but as of now it's working just fine.

to the guy that talked about the problems being in the batteries this is my second photon but i didnt get a new battery so my battery is still a first batch battery so am i still at risk for reboots and crashes?

I don't know how to tell the good from the bad. My first was bad and the replacement is good. No one is saying exactly what the problem is. It is speculation that its the battery or connected to that system.
