Help Photos disappeared

I am using a Galaxy S4 SCH-R970 through U. S. Cellular, Android 4.4.2 with a 64 GB micro card. I have been able to take photos and transfer them to the card quite easily in the past. Recently, a large number that I transferred from the phone card to the external card have simply vanished. Some that were no transferred have also simply vanished.

I know the shots were taken, since I viewed them with friends at least once each.

It's not a matter of lack of space on either the phone chip the micro card. I have a great deal of space available on both.

Is there a folder that could be considered a phantom?

I have the same problem but I also can't solve it ,mate. Pls anyone help me too.
Wrong on previous previousmessage ,sorry .

Same problem, even worse. Old photo's are nicely saved and never disappear on the external SDCard. New photo's are saved on the external SDCard, but are erased within a day. If I save them in a separate folder they are safe and will not be erased again. Also apps are randomly erased showing "app not installed" if I try to launch them. If have to re-install apps from day to day. Really terrible !!
