Help Physical N button no longer working

gsutton

Newbie
My physical N button no longer calls up anything when I press it, even after several reboots. MY boy was playing with the Nook Color and I suppose he did something to remove this capability. I would like to restore the functionality of the N button to allow me to select the launcher and softkeys. Other than this, the Nook appears to be OK (he did alter my wallpaper somehow, too!). Thanks for any assistance, as I can not find a way to restore it myself.

If you have Softkeys installed, maybe checj Softkeys settings and see what the 'Physical Home Button' options are set to.

Are you rooted, and what ROM? You may have to factory reset it if the problem is beyond a simple setting.

Also, welcome to the club of Kids who do things to your Electronic Devices. My wife's and my phone are constantly getting new games, wallpapers, and once in a while, a nasty boot loop.

Thanks for the reply. I am running rooted stock Nook Color, rooted with autonooter 3. I have checked the Softkeys settings as suggested, and it make no difference whether I select "Single tap Launcher, Double tap Softkeys" or "Single tap Softkeys, Double tap Launcher". Nothing happens when I press the N button.

I will look further into my settings, but I bet you are right I will have to reset the Nook to get it working again. Thanks!

I downloaded ADW Launcher just to try it, and after installing it, the N button brought up "Complete action using..." all of the launchers that I have installed, alogn with Softkeys. Sounds like some sort of glitch that was worked out with the new launcher being added. So far it now appears to be back to normal. Very bizarre to me. Thanks again for your assistance.

A late reply I know (you have solved it i read)
But what needed doing was for you to clear the application cache for the Default Launcher, under Settings / application management. When you installed the second Launcher the OS needed clarification of where you wanted to associate the N button (home) too. Essentially doing the same. It should have been sufficient to clear cache of the troubled app. This actually would be a first step for any FORCE close situations as well.

Bare in mind that doing the clear cache will also delete any other steps, looks and of layouts that you enjoyed and you will be faced with resetting such things up again.
Hope this can assit others in the future.

THANKS for the information as I can use all I can get! I will keep this in mind for other issues that I sometimes have.
