Why do a large proportion of android apps that allow you to send images to someone else provide only the camera as the source.

This is often the wrong way round. If you see something interesting, your best option is to get the picture there and then. Chances are that if you open the app, find the recipient, select the menu item or button that allows you to take a picture, then by that time the action is over.

Developers please note.

Take the picture, later choose to share it from the gallery.

^^This. In the gallery there should be a share option (usually a triangle of three dots) and that should hook into any app capable of sharing

Actually all of my apps that allow me to share images allow me to select the gallery as the source. Some don't even include the camera as an option.

So I guess we are using different sets of apps . But like the guys say, you can always use the share button in the gallery then choose the app you wish to use to share it.

I actually haven't encountered any photo sharing app that doesn't allow sharing from the gallery
