Help Picture Messages error (1 party) [Ascend MetroPCS] Help Requested

FMG

Hey there all. I'm new to the forums but I browsed lightly before making my decision on an Ascend through MetroPCS a couple of days ago.

I haven't rooted yet, so I'm all out of the box. Also, first time Android user. I'm reasonably tech savvy but I am not terribly experienced with cells. I haven't found this problem on the forums, apologies if I've missed it.

*short story: cannot receive picture messages from one party. red triangle appears*

First day with the ascend I had some trouble sending a picture message through to a friend. It showed the picture on my screen in messaging but with a symbol next to it that it uses to indicate that it is transferring the message or image. She tried sending me one and it didn't work either. The next day I verified with others that I can send and receive picture messages with no problem.

I retried with my first friend. Now I can send her picture messages but I'm still not getting hers. I've tried deleting the thread involving the pictures but when she started sending me the pictures again they still would not work. Now, even when she is sending text messages I have a red triangle with an exclamation mark on the thread. This is on the screen where I see all of my message threads, not within the thread itself.

Again, apologies if this is something easy. I've been searching and haven't found a solution.

Lol that's Metro for ya. I can almost bet it's a service issue and not the phone. My wife has the Ascend and I have the optimus and we both get the dreaded "red exclamation text failed symbol of doom." Try a quick reboot and see if that works.

call metro support and see if they can refresh your signal (dunno if it works like cricket)

if not kill your data connection (menu button, settings, wireless and netoworks, check the box and wait a few minutes before checking it back on)

Best way to reset all data connections is simply through airplane mode. Turn that on for 30 seconds. Then uncheck it and see if it works. Good Luck.

If everything works with everyone else. The problem is probably on her end, not yours. Try people that have the same carrier as she does. If it works for them then the problem is her phone. Maybe she's sending the pictures in some weird format or something, but it probably isn't you.

Thanks for all the advice. I used to have a lot of trouble with my freeform not sending data. I assumed that something was really messed up. I pulled the battery for a couple of minutes to reset and the picture messages are working again. After the trouble with the last phone I have to assume this is somehow on Metro even though it was fixed with a reset. I've already dumped hours into trying to go through their customer service. Does anyone know why this is a problem with Metro or if there is a good fix?
