Help Picture messages

I just got my infuse today. It is my first android, or smartphone, or whatever. I have upgraded from the samsung gravity.
My texting is working fine, my calls worked, my app market works, my browser works. But When I try to send a picture message over text from either the album or attachment options, it says it is reducing the image and then tries to send and I get a message saying "Currently unable to send your message. It will be sent when the service becomes available."

I then had someone send me a picture message to test it out, and it shows up but stays as "Downloading". I have checked my settings and everything should be correct. My wifi is working, and i have service.

The only thing I can think it would be is that my data plan isn't activated until the end of the month, but i was told by the rogers employee that using the wifi would be the same thing? Any help is appreciated as I am new to these devices and picture messages were common to me.

As far as I know you need the data connection even if you are on wifi for picture messages. I had this problem on my captivate where I would lose my data connection and mms wouldn't send or download but after I rebooted the phone and got my connection back it would be ok. So once you get your data plan activated it should work fine.

As far as I've seen in the past, picture services run over the data portion of cellular service. At one point, my brother used to accidentally use data with his Garmin smartphone, so my mother contacted the carrier to have data services blocked on his phone and when the changes were applied... BAM! No more picture messaging. SMS Texting continued to work as normal, but no images were permitted.

I've never seen a carrier that permits MMS to pass over WiFi. I reckon email is the only way to manage that. If you need to send a picture, you could try sending an email to the MMS gateway of the service.

With AT&T, I know it's (number)@mms.att.net (ex. 5125551212@mms.att.net) and then you attach the picture to the email.

I see Rogers SMS gateway is listed as (number)@pcs.rogers.com. I don't know if they accept attached images at that address, of if they have another for MMS.

This might hold you until your data plan kicks in.
