Help Pictures seem washed out and blah

Does anyone have an advice regarding the V's photo taking ability? All my pictures come out looking just blah. No color worth speaking of. What setting should I change? I'm not a photographer and honestly don't want to have to fiddle around too much. I just want a good default setting to be in place.

I think that there are 4 or 5 auto settings that you can try, i.e. indoor, outdoor, etc. the only problem is, is that it's difficult(to me at least) to really tell any difference on the itty bitty phone screen and need to look at full res on a computer, which is tedious...
