Pinch & unpinch to Zoom & Apple case

With the big win for Apple on the pinch or unpinch to zoom, what effect can that have on the Note, Note 2 and the S3? I know there is an injunction hearing soon but how bad can the ruling be with regards to these phones and how they work?

The S3 and the Note are already out there but could it only affect the Note 2

I doubt Sammy or google will change key functionality like this. Subsequent to the appeal, if they lose I'll hazard a guess that they just cough up for use of patents.

Seems ridiculous to me that Apple now have to over arching rights to what shape a phone can be, how to zoom in etc without Sammy being able to claim anything from Apple for their patent infringements.

Seems to me the jury were from the same country as Apple and therefore....

Shoulda been tried by an independent court IMHO and without a (bribed?) Jury.

I agree patents should be adhered to and anyone else using them should contribute to its originators R&D, but this ruling is taking the biscuit.

I also believe the S3 gets around a few of the issues raised by Apple in the g and S2. Although not holding my breath for round 2 (on the S3)...

The patent is a lot more narrow than that. It doesn't cover all pinch to zoom functionality, but a very specific implementation. I'd not worry.

That was my thought too. And Google seems to have pretty good answer to this in JB.

Jelly Bean already works around Apple's pinch-to-zoom patent
