Pinch Zooming On X10 Q1 2011

To everyone who's planning to start screaming for multi-touch from the beginning of January, please note that "Q1" in Sony Ericsson (or any other company's) marketing book means "end of March 2011 at the very earliest".

Or, to put it another way, by the time this comes along (IF it comes at all) you'll have had your X10 for a year and be ready for an upgrade to something new and shiny

That sounds.........scarily probable. I'm sure the next step will be "Oh, to further prove our commitment we will be releasing Android 2.2 sometime in 2011........to mark the anniversary of us giving our customers Android 2.1" Meanwhile most of us are running 2.2 already courtesy of the excellent developers over at XDA.

WOW, that is exactly what the CSR told me when I discussed the phone prior to purchase. Where did you get the que cards from? LOL.......

I doubt it, it's a pretty bad plan... be behind most companies, to me it's SE playing catch up but marketed as progress.

What I said were just for entertainment purposes and simply me messing around. But I actually do think this could be true. Everyone's played with an iPhone and I'm sure Apple competitors understand what makes an iPhone great, which is why so many people try to imitate their product. If SE really is this clueless about MT and other features, then they truly are one dumb and oblivious company.

I think they didn't put MT because it would take too long, cost too much and thought we'll stick it in later.
Then realised it was really hard to do so said they couldn't do it, now someone has figured it out they'll make a noise about it like it's progress, which it is in terms of the X10 but not in the wider scheme of things. It's only catch up but still not quite there.

Aside from games, for me it's:

1) For much, much easier and quicker browsing of the internet (the + - to Zoom doesn't cut it and gets in the way, and you need to move the screen for it to come up)

2) For much quicker texting. I'm pressing with my right thumb as my left thumb is still leaving the screen, and back then on with my left thumb before the right leaves the screen. This fails without multi-touch (typing is 1.5 times quicker on my iPod touch).

You missed the point of my post - those 2 points ARE what Sony have covered

i wanted to know what - if anything - outside of those you would need multitouch on a phone for - as every one whinges about not having MT but nobody ever says what they want it for

By that logic why do you need a touch screen, why do you need a colour screen, why do you need an SD card these are just optional add ons? You can still use a phone without all these.

referring to Apples patent on MULTITOUCH displays

this has NOT been granted in FULL

therefore, as SE were in the RED a while back, (i.e. LOSING money every quarter, my opinion is they couldn't afford a lawsuit from Apple (similar to the one Apple raised against HTC - which has subsequently failed)

Now that the legal threat has vanished, Sony can now impliment the Multi-touch feature without risk or financial cost

IMO - and about $10 dollars worth
