Pirates & Traders

and had been playing the Pirates and Traders Game for a few weeks now with occassional Force Close issues.

I have a suspicion that the latest update of Admob (Google's ad module) has a memory leak somewhere. I have added some code in the next update that I hope will reduce this problem.

I figured maybe still haveing the original game on my phone maybe confussing the download so I deleted it.
From Android's point of view, P&T free and the Gold! version are entirely different apps, so this should never be necessary.

then I tried to download the Gold version again. but now I cannot find either Pirates and Traders or the Gold version in the Android Market. Am I have Evo Issues or is the game still on the market? if not, WHat Happened? if it is, why isnt it showing up on my Evo?
There hasn't been an update of this on the marke since last week, so unless Google has done something (and it does not appear so, since the apps are still very much visible and available on the web market) it is not an issue there.

Most likely your market client has simply gotten messed up. This is not uncommon and I've noticed several developers complaining about the market recently, so this seems likely.

The standard way to solve 99% of all market problems is to go into "Settings" >> "Applications" and then find two applications "Market" and "Download Manager" (the specific names may vary, depending on your Android version and locale). For both of these apps, select to "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data", if possible. This resets the apps, clearing out any corrupted information that may be causing trouble.

If this does not work, then send me an e-mail with your order number (sent to you by Google Checkout), so that I can check whether Google Checkout is holding up the download in some way (normally you should receive an email from them if that happens, but obviously such can get lost). Your description sounds like a simply Market outage, though, so I doubt this is the case.

Latest version fixed my display issues. Thanks man!

Any advice you can give me for my dev friend on how he can fix his app? Is it just a flag to set, or is it much more involved?

Downloaded and played it for entire day but still can't seem to understand this game very much lol.

Lets see .. if Britain and dutch common enemy was Spain , all I need to do is keep attacking Spain right ? but after some time dutch and British is in peace with Spain and a pardon fee of omfg is required.. okay...
Privateers are a pain in the ass. there's this few times when I started a new game they are the first ship to show up and just ruined my new game.
so not being a quitter I tried n tried so I upgraded my ship to a decent one and yet I lost to a Damn merchant ship Wtf?
how am I suppose to conquer a city when I can't even blow up a merchant ship ? is it even possible to conquer a city ?

Wished the apprentice difficulty was more 'apprentice' or just put a 'noobs ' difficulty so that people like me who isn't that good at rts game can actually get a blend into this game ya.. ? thanks and sorry for my poor English

In the case of my app, it was a pretty simple bug, so the app kept thinking that the screen density was 1.5, when in fact it was 2. Once that was fixed, almost everything worked correctly. I would suggest going through any and all code that involves manual checks/computation of the screen density and verify that all it working as intended.

Apologies for the late replies - it's been a busy first week.

You need to keep an eye on who is allied with who at all times (clicking the flag during combat will pop up this info for the current opponent). The nation you attack as well as their allies will get pissed at you.

I will probably make privateers a bit less common on easy level, but the key thing with privateers is not to try and fight them unless you can win. Running away or even surrendering is usually cheaper than getting sunk.

Life as a pirate is harsh. ;)

Probably shouldn't try it until much later.

And yes it is possible. Big ship, good leadership, experienced crew.

I hope to do something more with the difficulty level soon.

This game is GREAT!!! It's not very hard once you get used to it, but I'm addicted; it's the only game i play these days.

Under stats->Ship, it shows that my crew is "extremely happy (100)" and "poor (8)". What does it mean poor and how do I increase that value to max? It might be worth adding that info to the in game help menu.

I think that poor rating is effecting my crews ability to fight. I've been losing battles recently that I shouldn't be losing and can't figure out how to raise that rating.

Thanks!

Glad you like it.

The two stats you are looking at is morale and experience. Morale determines how many losses your crew can take in a fight, while experience determines their fighting value.

Experience increases with time (+1 every month) and as a result of combat. To keep it high, you should try to only recruit experienced sailors and minimize casualties. Easier said than done, of course.

Also - recruited crew have lower experience the higher the difficulty level.

I absolutely love the game and have had a blast playing. I have a full upgraded Spanish treasure galleon with a crew of 366. They are elite sailors and 100 Morale. I go to attack a lesser populated port and lose a ton of men I chime back a few months later and even though I killed 100 of their men in the last battle their troop count stays the same. What us the deal? What am I missing?! What is the secret to conquering Towns?! In the retro version I would do great but have yet to conquer a city in the new version.

I'll check the troop counts again. Normally, they'd reduce if you inflict high enough casualties. Note that reduced troop counts will often result in the port being reinforced from home, though, so that may have occurred without you noticing.

In general, though, port conquests have been made more difficult compared to the Retro version. It is still doable, though.

great game, really impressed at how much detail you have crammed in, found a glitch/cheat, if you go to shipyard & buy a pinnace then search until u find a warship in enemy waters u can beat it, then seize it, go back to the shipyard & repair before buying another pinnace, you'll get paid 8000+, go back out & find another warship, easy money. I found that if you concentrate on destroying troop transfers from the start then you can conquer towns after you have gained leadership skills.

how come when ever i socialize & have a drink it says what a waste? To life like lol

Hi strategy.I love your game.(I like turn based strategy games specially in hand phone.)but please make it more attractive with 3D fighting and more detailed on negotiations with ports.do it more like civilization game.I like more adventure in search and find ports in map(hidden treasures!).if it's hard to make 3D battles,at least make it awesome for management system.map and ports too small build it more huge and bring cultures to your game....!(world map with all countries with different cultures and more weapons and upgrades.)I think its going to the big dreams.thank you and support your game.best strategy pirate game ever in phones.

Thanks for the feedback, apologies for the late reply.

Trading down for ships is intended to give you some money, so this is pretty much working as designed. Taking on a larger ship with a small pinnace is a pretty big risk to take, so it is fine by me if the reward is proportionate.

Thanks for the feedback. However, I think P&T and the game you really want are very distant from each other. P&T is not a Civilization/management game, and probably will never develop very much in that direction.

I do have another project that I'm working on a bit that is more management oriented, but it's still far from completion - and given the part-time basis of my work - there's no telling whether it will ever get finished.

Hi, I downloaded P&T yesterday, and this game ROCKS!!!!! Thanks for making such a great game.

Here's a question: If all the French ports have this sad smiley face (I guess it means the governors hate me and won't even offer pardon, even after I was able to sneak in and talk to him), will I never have the chance to be exonerated?

Another question: Currently, there is only one French port without that sad face icon, and the governor asks for whopping 36k from me to be pardoned. Is there any way to reduce this without actually paying? Will it decrease over time if I take no adverse action on the French ships?

How it happened FYI: I have been picking on the French a lot to rank up with all other nations since they were all on war against the French.

Thanks for the praise.

Currently, if the governor's all hate you, you're pretty much stuck. Eventually governors should be getting replaced (thus resetting the relationship), but I am not sure that this is actually working as intended right now.

Currently, a nations hatred of a pirate is static. Making reputation improve (and decrease if you have good reputation) over time is something that is on the list of things I am considering implementing, but will need to have it balanced first.

There are also plans to adding alternative ways of improving relations with a faction, but right now the game is preparing for some serious upgrades (new graphics means I can finally do a lot of stuff that I have been planning to do a while), so can't say when that might get added.

Got the latest update and the visuals on the main map screen look great. I do have a problem though. The button in the lower left corner covers quite a bit of the location window that pops up.

Edit: Forgot to say, I'm using the rezound with the 720p display.

Thanks for reporting this. A very weird bug, as it worked fine on my development setup, but didn't work in the release package. It has been fixed now, however (version 2.3.9).

Love the new port screens. However, on my rezound with the hd screen, the top button on each screen is sitting on the frame, rather than being over the lighter color inside the frame. This makes it hard to tell if the button is active or not.
