Pirates & Traders

Apologies, moving this thread was a mistake. I have moved it back to its original location in the Android Games forums. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Love the new port screens. However, on my rezound with the hd screen, the top button on each screen is sitting on the frame, rather than being over the lighter color inside the frame. This makes it hard to tell if the button is active or not.

Yes, I've noticed this as well. I'm working with the artist to find a good solution to this.

@jonbonazza: No problem.

hey so I've been playing this game with the new android feature on the blackberry playbook. There's a couple of bugs that are pretty annoying. First the game will freeze almost everytime you try to leave port after having played an action (e.g, hiring men, trading as a merchant, repairing ship...) and try to return to the map. The screen will go black and a message pops up after several seconds saying that the game has stopped unexpectedly and gives you 2 options, force close or wait. Waiting does nothing, force close will bring you back to the home screen where you can click start game.
The second bug is after having played the game for a short while, perhaps 60-70 moves (either travel or port) when you are forced back to the home screen due to a force close and try to click on the saved profile. It simply says "the game 'pirates and traders' has stopped unexpectedly" with only one option "force close" it will not let you open the game anymore until you create a new profile and start over.
3rd a reccomendation, the game has the option to "buy GOLD version" however the "GOLD version is not available on the Blackberry APPworld market. Why? lol

Oh wow... that's an ancient version. :D

The current version is v2.4.2, and the game itself is now available in two separate versions: Pirates and Traders (the updated version) and Pirates and Traders: Retro (the last pre-2.0 version - currently 1.5.3).

The game is not on the APPWorld, simply because I've never had the time to verify compatibility with Playbook - and with RIM appearing to withdraw from the "entertainment" market, it's not really worthwhile to jump through the hoops required by them. Sorry.

If you're in the US, you should be able to get both the standard and Gold! version from the Amazon appstore.

Glad you like it. Am hoping to wrap up the graphical updates this month, which will finally allow me to get back to adding new/restoring some old features to the gameplay.

Still loving the upgrades. Couple things I've noticed: I was in the combat beta the other day and had my opponent at -15 health before I lost the fight. Also, when I load the game, my fencing gloves are not equipped. Just my longsword and flintlock pistol. If I equip them, they stay on until the next time I load. I noticed also that if the pistol isn't equipped and I put on the gloves, the pistol goes gray and can't be equipped. Looks like they can't be used together, but if I equip in the right order I can get around the limitation.

Keep up the awesome work!

When i have a letter of marque for multiple nations it always gives control of any port I conquer to the french. In fact, being a admiral for the french it is always giving them control even if I have no letter from them.

Please mak it so that we can choose who to give control to when we are conquering a port.

Great game. I been playing it for maybe a year now. This is the only thing that bugs me. Well its also annoying that I cannot train (or hire experienced sailors) my crew on hard mode quick enough. I attack a port and reduce its troops by 100 then go to a few ports to recruit experienced sailors (cuz on hard mode anything less than experienced salors fail) qnd go back to the city I attacked and they have their 100 soldiers back, making it impossible for me to ever take that port.

Thanks :)

Ya I just posted but wanna give extra info. Even when I have no letter from the french (but do have from other nations) its giving any port I conquer t the french. Even if I conquer a french port its giving it back to the french. Almost all the map is french. I wanted to reverse this by conquering some french ports but cannot. So ya, pls make it so we can choose who we conquer for.

Also, I'm trying to become admiral for all nations so I can be a flag admiral and get the flag galleon. I been playing thi game a long time and never gotten that ship. I never managed to become admiral in all nations.

Is flag galleon still available in game? Any tips for me?

The next update it would be nice if u could have a fleet of shipss the ones u win battles over or at very least u should have the option to sell ships that you have the option of seizing.also an in town option of court governors daughters would be cool like in Sid meijers

Been playing the latest version and am liking it. The update to the buttons works great. Much easier to tell when they are grayed out.

I don't recall seeing ports changing hands in previous versions. Maybe it was just rare. In this version, they seem to change hands a lot. Not a problem, I just wasn't sure if the frequency was as intended.

Keep up the awsome work!

Edit: Guess I haven't tried the latest. :) There is a new update today.

Sail the Caribbean in this turn-based strategy/role-playing game. Will you be peaceful trader, traveling from island to island with goods trying to exploit circumstances of high supply and demand? Or will you be a rapacious pirate, waging war on sea and on land against the enemies of your country. You decide

This is a great game. It reminds me a lot of Uncharted Waters. It's quickly become the game I go to when I'm bored. I have several FF games on my S3 right now that I'm playing but I keep switching back to this game because it's a lot of fun. Three things I'd like to see would be more content added as time progresses, more skills (might be overkill but hey, I can ask, right?), and the ability to more easily sack ports later in the game.

After stumbling upon this thread yesterday, I installed the Retro version (smaller ;)), quite nice.

Very reminiscent of Pirates: Gold!, but that's a good thing. I'm always playing that game. :D

Thanks for the praise.

Three things I'd like to see would be more content added as time progresses,

There are a couple of additional quests mapped out (and partly written), so that will come.

more skills (might be overkill but hey, I can ask, right?),

I don't think I will tweak the skill system any more in this game. And if I were to tweak it (e.g., if I decided to do a P&T2 at some point), I would probably cut the number of skills down a bit and add more traits instead.

and the ability to more easily sack ports later in the game.

The big ports are supposed to be very, very hard to sack, but that being said, the balance has been tweaked several times, and may well be again. If I did do a P&T2 some day in the future, I think I'd create a different battle system for this, though.

Please release the gold edition on the blackberry market!!! I have an early version that I downloaded for the playbook but would love to purchase the newest and most refined version of this game!! It's so entertaining and addictive. An excellent premise but would be even better if I could play it on my playbook!!!
Thanks very much - BT, Ontario, Canada

I know that there was an intent to support Android apps on the Playbook, but unfortunately, last I checked this no longer appeared to be the case. So, unfortunately, such a release is not likely in the near future.
