Whenever you enter into fullscreen mode on the Pixel 2 XL, the navigation buttons will be hidden. To exit out of fullscreen mode, all you have to do is swipe from the bottom of the phone (always on the end where the USB port is). That will pull up the navigation buttons and you can either press back or the home button to exit.
