Pixel W/ a dead pixel?

XPlay69

Newbie
Pixel XL, I've been noticing a different color pixel on my screen, always in the same spot.

Just a few moments ago, I download a "dead pixel finder" app. I ran it and the screen goes through several different colors but while doing this I see no different color pixel stand out?

So, I do a reboot, yep it's still there...in the same spot...wtf?! Lol

Any ideas? It's somewhat annoying on a new phone...never had a pixel problem before. Then I get a Pixel and....go figure, lol

A bit worried screen may be going out? Glitching?

I'd like to swap the phone out soon for warranty reasons if it's hardware, but running the test it doesn't show? Strange, I see it on reboot, videos, and day to day use...

Any ideas? Thanks

Did a little more experimenting...it's noticeable when the pixel in question and surrounding area is black. It looks like a blue dot.....but turning the screen black to test for it...it's not there...strange...

Yah,just tried a different app and it's there every time with an all black screen....blue pixel.....guess it's time for a swap...

This is really getting old....

Note 7...recall...swap
Note 7...recall....swap
Pixel XL....dead pixel?.....swap

I've had great luck with smartphones...never had to turn one in, fix one, etc.....

The Note 7 was a different animal I guess but setting up a new phone 4 times in a few months really blows...

I remember when LCD monitors became popular, the dead pixel problem was quite common and many sellers stated that they only let you exchange for a new monitor if your unit has more than three dead pixels.

I agree with @codesplice... you shouldn't accept "dead" pixels on a new phone, especially one at that price.

However it might be worth running one of the "stuck pixel" repair apps available in the Play Store before initiating the RMA.

Thanks for the advice. As an update, I rebooted in safe mode and the blue pixel is still there (when the background is black).

I did try a dead pixel fix app (ran the recommended 30 minutes) with no change.

Now, I did buy this XL from Big Red (trade in savings reasons).

So, is the RMA link above only for ones bought through the Google Store? Should I try Verizon first?

In a way, 1 measly pixel seems a bit anal but yes, this is a high priced little guy and even 1 little pixel irritates me.

Thanks again.

Generally speaking, you should start with the place of purchase to see if/how they are able to handle a warranty claim.

You can also contact Google's Pixel support team directly through the on-device Support tab in the Settings menu. They would be able to initiate an RMA for you as well.

The link I provided earlier was actually a bit too general, and just provided the details of the manufacturer warranty rather than being a starting point for the RMA process - sorry about that!
