Plan While Traveling

Hello,

I'm considering upgrading from my Eris to a D2Global as I will be either traveling in Europe for 3 months or actually moving to London for 9 months later this year and will need a phone to use there along with data. To avoid paying the rather expensive global data/phone rates, I plan to purchase local SIM cards to use while in Europe. My question is: if I'm using local SIM cards while internationally traveling, what happens to my account here in the States? Obviously I do not want to have to pay for a US plan that I won't be using while also paying for a European plan, but I'll also be renewing my 2 yr contract when I upgrade to this phone.

I believe you can put your account on some sort of hold. It'll cost you like $15 a month or something, though. Double check with VZW. Also make sure they'll unlock your phone for you before you buy it, as most people have experienced that they're unable to unlock the phone for international usage without the assistance of VZW.
