Planning a trip to australia

Is anybody on here from there? I think we're going to Perth in Western Australia. What is a good time of year to go? Any good places to stay? Stuff to do? We're staying for a month.

The only reason we're picking perth is because we know a guy that lives there, but not extremely well. So is Perth cool, or would there be a better place to check out? I'm looking for a tropical beach scene!
