Help Play Store downloading problems - phone issue?

I'm not quite sure if this is a phone issue (I have the unlocked version), a carrier issue or something else. I thought maybe someone could help or give me an idea.

Basically, I find many of the apps/widgets from the play store are "not available in your country". I don't live in some desolate area, and I never had any issues downloading from the App store on my previous phone (factory unlocked iPhone). If I go to the Play Store via the internet, I get a message saying it's not compatible with my device.

To get around this, I was able to download some apps (such as Beautiful Widgets) from AndroidPit and I got WhatsApp from their website. I want to upgrade my Nova Launcher to Prime - but I can't find any way to do this without going through the Play Store (AndroidPit doesn't have it).

Any ideas of whats going on?

Google doesn't have trade agreements with certain countries, so paid apps are not available in these countries. Apple may have those trade agreements, or the country doesn't actively block Apple, so an iPhone won't have the same difficulty.

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about this.
