Help Playing music from my S4 on car radio

I've searched and couldn't find an issue or solution close to mine so forgive me if this was already posted somewhere and i missed it.
I have a Note 4 and a 2014 GMC Terrain. The Bluetooth allows hands free calling but not music play. I have a USB plug and tried plugging in the phone thru the USB plug and I got the Samsung Brand Music to play but my music in Google Play Music just played on my phone not on the radio.
Do I need an app to get this to work? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

I don't think you are doing anything wrong, but I don't think you can do what you want with the hardware that you have. Since Google Play is a cloud service, I get the feeling that the audio is not going to be saved on the phone. At the most it will be cached, but then not in any form that a car head unit will be able to use. Otherwise you could copy off the "MP3s" you download and give them to anyone you want, which would not please Google. Since the USB connection in your car will certainly be looking for MP3 files, which it will then decode and play, this is going to be a problem.

What I think you need is an AUX input which you can then connect to the headphone out on your phone. This will allow the audio produced by the phone to be used by the car stereo.
