Playing successfully without spending any money - Pokémon GO

Is it possible to have a good experience with this game without spending any real money? I'm level 5 I think and luckily have yet to run out of balls but what about when I do?

There are zero instructions or tutorials with this game other than a couple tips. Heh

Taking a ride or walk by enough Pokéstops should replenish any lack of Pokéballs.

Pokey stops are the answer. Look for monuments, libraries, historic places. Murals, hospitals. Commerative plagues, police stations. All the stuff that makes life good and interesting.

If you don't plan on going to gyms, you can dump your potions to save room
