Playstore connection error, nothing works.

Lurker
So recently rooted my phone, few days later every single google related app staryed giving me the connection error.

I have root explorer, tried editing the hosts file, but when I save it says no changes where made and when I delete it fails. Tried a different file explorer, same story, failed to edit and delete, apparently I dont have permission.

I dont know what might be causing this but it is really frustrating not being able to use gmail, playstore, etc.

I dont know what to do up to this point, so any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, but not at /etc, when I click remount nothing happens but anywhere else it switches to r/w and vice versa.

Sorry for the (very) late response, but I finally had the time to try and fix it with adb.

I can succesfully pull and edit, but when I try to puh it back, I get the error message "failed to copy 'C:\hosts to /system/etc/hosts' : Read only file system"

Is there a way to resolve this? Kind of blank about what to do :(

Anyways thanks for the help, appreciate it.

I'm out of ideas but will keep looking and will post if I find anything that looks promising. Sucks that it won't accept changing permissions.

Yeah ive been searching around myself to see if I could change it, only thing ive come across so far is that I need to fladh a custom rom to change the kernel version/build or something, just not sure how and I actually prefer not to unless its my only option.

Thanks for the help.

maybe there is an internet connection error or you should disconnect the internet from your device and restart your device again. If still it doesn't work then you can root your device and You can also try with another Gmail account.

Sorry I'm woefully late to this thread, but using adb is probably your best approach for tweaking a /system file.

Although I do think Root Explorer should have no problem remounting /system in read/write mode, using adb will allow you to see that you've changed things straight away.

Actually, even using the Terminal Emulator for Android app will accomplish the same thing...

OP (@itshawk), if you're still around, lemme know and I'll paste back some commands that should be helpful to you.
