PLEASE ADVISE!

I CURRENTLY GOT A NEW HTC REZOUND VERSION 2.3.4.I CURRENTLY WILL BE UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER WITH HTCDEV. MY QUESTION IS, THE PHONE IS ASKING ME TO UPGRADE TO THE NEW OTA UPDATE VERSION to 2.01.605.11. . IF I DO THE OTA UPDATE CAN I STILL UNLOCK THE BOOTLADER AND ROOT WITH THE CURRENT ROOT FILES PROVIDED , OR WILL THE CURRENT PERM ROOT HAVE TO BE WITH VERSION 2.3.4.

PLEASE HELP I DON'T WANT TO SCREW UP!!!!

Rooting is still possible after the OTA, but the process is different. Check out androidcentral.com, and xda sites as well as this one. Make sure you understand before you do the OTA.

I unlocked, rooted and custom ROM'd my Rezound before the OTA and now the OTA always fails. And that's good as far as I'm concerned because there were some issues with the OTA. Read, read, read.

I rooted first, then did the OTA, and followed up with a permanent root using instructions on IT Help - Tips and Tricks - The Dr1ver. It's fairly simple. I couldn't remove all the bloatware using the process described on that website, but I was able to root and then downloaded several apps: Superuser and Titanium Backup to ensure I was rooted and back things up. I then downloaded NoBloat Free and froze / deleted the bloatware I didn't want.

I'm totally new to rooting (my first attempt with my current Rezound) and I'm hooked - will always root any future phones.

the steps to rooting after the OTA are the same:

-unlock bootloader(will wipe data)
-install a recovery
-flash superuser in recovery

its no big deal to do it after.

with an unlocked bootloader you WILL NOT have to worry about being able to reroot after an OTA,so stop fussing about them and let them happen.

if you want to run a stock rom, temporarily install your recovery so your stock recovery can apply OTAs when they happen. then just reflash superser after the update.

by trying to fight the OTA and stay on older roms you are also missing the benefits of a newer radio.

with a custom rom,its a little more tricky to update firmware, but still possible and worth doing. :)

OTAs are good. my 2 cents ;)

Also remember there are Forums all over the place discussing these things already. When i went through the process i spent a lot of time just making sure i understood ALL the terms and crap these evil geniuses will be using in the forums so i understand what they are talking about when new things happen. Im sure it is frustrating to a lot of the developers who put all the information you could possibly need in sticky posts then instead of reading through them you open another post so they have to type it all out again. Please know im not trying to be rude and i understand how frustrating and time consuming it is to learn all this crap.
