Please comment on battery performance

Hi all, sorry if this is duplicate but i'm looking for feedback on my phone. I have barely any concept of how long batteries should last cause on my previous phones I always had them charging in the car, in the office, at home, etc. So anyhow, with the Maxx HD I suspect I'm falling quite short based on what you all have been commenting. I'm getting max 15.5 hours of life with about 60% screen time. Not doing much outside of email, facebook, texting and mostly on wifi. Barely any phone calls.

Does this look like I have a faulty battery? I've had the phone for 5 days now and it hasn't gotten up to 16 hours.

Both attached screenshots are at 1% battery life.

thanks for the comments!

This might be a silly question, but are you leaving your screen on for the whole 15 hours? If your screen is on all the time, even if you are not doing anything with the phone, then 15 hours is probably about right. But if your phone screen is off most of the time except for when you are doing texting, facebook, etc. then 15 hours is way short. Take it back and get a new phone.

The screen is the biggest drain on the battery as you can see from your graphs.

I was going to ask the same thing. What do you have your screen timeout (sleep) time set for? If it's 10, or even 5 minutes, that's going to be a huge battery drain.

I've admittedly not used my phone heavily (a couple calls, several texts, checking email, surfing a few websites, etc.), but I'm just getting ready to plug it in - it's at 11% of battery -- the last time it was plugged in was 68 hours ago. That's with wifi on 100% of the time (20% of my battery use). You won't get that battery life with moderate-heavy use, but if you're screen is left on for a couple minutes after you've finished using the phone, that's a significant drain.

Thanks for the feedback. Screen sleep is the default 1 minute so it doesn't stay on unless I'm actually using it. Got the phone from Amazon should I be contacting them, Verizon, or Motorola?

Called Amazon and the rep said it's cause I have wifi on all the time.... ..... anyhow they cannot send replacement phones unless I RMA the original unit first or prepay a refundable $700. Called Verizon and the gal had me do a soft reboot (LOL) and said to call back if still having the problem and they'll send a replacement.

No that's gotta be bullshit. Unless you have a torrent program running 24/7, your battery should NOT be dying that quickly. I don't turn wifi on at all and my phone will last a good 17-18 hours and as far as I've been told, 4G uses considerably more power than wifi.

thanks. just got off the phone w/ Verizon and they were telling me 15-20 hours is pretty good. I got in an argument saying if 15 hours was all I wanted I wouldn't have gotten this damn model. They won't replace until after 14 days and forcing me to go through Amazon. Ridiculous so now I have to buy a new one at full retail and wait for them to receive and process a refund on the return.

dropbox, and bunch of other things running.

Battery life is subjective on all phones. Usually the first thing is "3 full charges", you probably went there already.

Next, click on the graph, there's more info under that. The history details might show a sharper curve. If you are using a large amount of data, like 4G, you will probably drain faster.

I just picked up a RAZR HD today, so I can't really comment specifically, but battery life seems to be really good here, it came with around 50% charge indicated. I do run a voip client, so that taxes my battery much quicker.

I can't comment on what your battery life "should" be, not knowing what apps are running, amount of data being used, etc., but I can say that the comment about it being due to wifi being on is BS.

I have my wifi on almost all the time (I work from home and am always connected to wifi here). I got 68 hours out of my last charge. Admittedly light-moderate usage, but wifi was always on, and accounted for 20% of my battery use.

My Maxx HD gets about 50 hrs but I'm a light user. A few short phone calls per day, 15 min per day gaming and the remaining time reading email when it comes in and FB. Keep in mind I'm asleep 14 of the 50 hrs. I do turn off bluetooth, wi-fi, data and GPS when not needed with Smartaction rules. Screen timeout is set to 30 sec.
