Root please help, cannot get into custom recovery..

I've used this to to install the bootloader/recovery/root:

Problem is that I cannot boot into the recovery by holding the volume down and power button. It just boots into the OS. The only way I can access recovery is through the toolkit. What am I doing wrong?

I found a post saying to pull the battery, which I did, and it worked. But the problem is that I once I boot back into the ROM and then power off and try recovery again, it doesn't work. So you need to pull the battery every time?

what rom are you running??

stock, does that matter? That was honestly the last thought that crossed my mind, but I haven't had a chance to change to a different rom yet.

It does matter because some roms have an andvanced power menu which will allow you to poweroff your device straight to the recovery.
But i think there is something you can flash to obtain the power menu while still on stock

OK found the flashable zip for the Advanced Power Menu.

try flashing in recovery if you can get into the recovery.

Thanks, but flashing to a cm10 mod made it work.
