CHEONY81

Newbie
i have my prevail rooted currently using halfassmod rom..i downloaded 2 apps and keep getting (phone storage space is getting low...i know awhile back i saw something bout partitiion sd card or something between those lines, but havent been able to find it..any help will be appreciated.also i was trying to download cm7,i followed this download procedure(http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/677565-help-installing-cm7-prevail.html) and when rebooted it just stays stuck on android screen. Thank you again for your help

You partition your card via cwm, or using adb and the sdparted command while in recovery. The instructions you followed for installing cm7 most likely failed (got stuck at the android screen) because your SD card wasn't partitioned. Katokernel-ext only works with a sdcard with a sdext (partition)

What size and class is your sdcard? This info will help with when it comes to suggesting proper sizes for partitioning

its a 4gb sandisk micro sd hc(?)

OK, in that case I would recommend a 1024 (1gb) partition

NOTE - PARTITIONING YOUR CARD WILL ERASE THE CONTENTS OF THE CARD. YOU WILL NEED TO BACK THEN UP TO YOUR COMPUTER FIRST.

To partition:
Boot into cwm
Go to advanced > partition sdcard
Select 1024 (which is 1gb) for the first number
Select 0 for the second

Once it finishes, you can move your files back to the sdcard, and install a rom.

also note that this will reserve this space specifically for apps and data. It will not be available for media such as music and pictures

As for instructions on installing cm7

Katokernel-ext

Theme chooser

Theme chooser themes

Flash these zips in order, and install the app at the end of the list for the full list of themes available for use with theme chooser.

if you set it up this way, it moves all your data to your sdext. (Using hroarks /data2ext solution.)

If you want to use the s2e method you will need to flash the non-ext version of katokernel found here and set it up using the tut wet biker has HERE

Also, any GB based baseband will do... when hroark be leased b5 ej06 was the newest, and only, gingerbread baseband available. The baseband you have will work just fine

This was in the thread 'help installing cm7' found on the same page as this thread. ;)

cool..what the best available rom available right now..and best way to download..isue i was having i would download 3-4 which social apps, like facebook, text free, kik, and next thing you know it gives me memory error..

thats exactly what i did(as far as following the steps..) and was stuck on android screen..so i would make sure to partition sd card.1024,then 0,then download cm7,flash it,onced flash, flash kernel,,once complete flash update-drivers.and themes and then reboot phone?

The 'best available rom' is all a matter of opinion. All of the ROMs here are great, and they all have their own benefits.
My advice- try all of them, find what suits your needs.

As far as the low memory, that's the point of partitioning the card. It uses this partition for your apps and data, essentially giving you 1gb of internal memory. With cm7 & katokernel its moved automatically. With any of the ROMs that use Koumakernel, there is an extra step or two to set it up. This is because there are actually a few different modes that the kernel can run in.

ok cool thank you..if i switch from different roms do i need to do a sd card partition? once i download cm7 is there and extra step i have to take as far as settings or anything?

Nope, once you partition it, its set up. If you switch ROMs you may need to wipe the sd-ext tho. Not all ROMs wipe it during the install. (A factory reset will wipe it. As well as formating it via the mounts and storage menu in cwm)

If you follow my instructions, and use katokernel-ext then no, there is no additional setup.

once last thing, should i wipe the sd-ext,do a factory reset and wipe sd ext? or wipe sd-ext then factory resert and then flash new roms?

If you do a factory reset (via cwm) it will wipe the sdext. Doing it again (before or after) is just redundant
