any input will be greatly appreciated.. thanks a lot..

You could just wait for the OTA update which will probably come any day now. Or, if you can't wait, check this forum for the treads discussing the problems with Kies. One hint: don't use the USB cable which came with the phone. I believe that it is only good for charging, not data transfer.

Good luck!

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.

The cable that comes with the phone can be used for data, however, it is wired to deliver more current for charging than a standard data cable, so if your want fast charging you need to use the original cable.

Thanks a lot guys for the prompt response.. i want to root my phone to install ICS, can you people suggest me some good ROMS to install.. roms which will include all `features and most stable. i heard in various forums that in few roms radio doesn't work and few roms there is no S MEMO .. could anyone of you please give me alink where i can simply about methods of rooting my 2.3.6 and information about various ROMS ...

thanks a lot ..

The evidence suggests rooting your phone is risky with the Note if you want, ultimately, to run the official ICS update. This is because there are reports that resetting a rooted Note after the ICS update can brick your Note. The global deployment of ICS for the Note is going steadily so I'm optimistic you will get it soon.
