OK, first you need to enable USB Debugging. Go to settings, applications, development and check the USB debugging option.
Then you can plug in your phone to a computer, it will do the beep the sound and a notification will show up in your notification bar, select the notification and it will take you to a screen with a android guy and a option to enable USB Mass Storage, select that and you'll be good to go. The phone built in SD Card and your removable SD Card with both show up as removable mass storage devices on your computer.
Hope that helps

This worked for me:

Go into Settings then Wireless and network then USB utilities then press Connect storage to PC...... and follow the instructions.

You are the first person that suggested checking USB degugging. Either way - I don't get any visual notification. I get the beep bep and phone charges, so I know the cable and connection are good - but that's as far as I can get!

What kind of computer and os are you using. Windows should automatically detect USB storage, if not you can try downloading Samsung kies on your windows computer which should automatically install all Samsung drivers. If ur on Mac or Ubuntu etc, then idk.

If you're still having issues, try a different cable and /or another computer/usb port if available. EVERY Samsung android device I've used (and it's quite a few), has been finicky about cables and usb ports. The same cables that work fine with my Evo4g refuse to work with my wifes old E4g. Even cables that have worked can eventually fail to work with the Samsung (but work fine with the Evo). I've experienced similar issues with the Moment, Intercept and Vibrant. The E4g was inconsistant connecting to our Toshiba laptop and 2 out of 5 almost identical Dell desktops my wife has access to at work, regardless of cable used, yet has no issue with our cheap Asus netbook. Once again, no other android based devices I've used have similar port issues.

What if USB Utilities is not listed? I've read all over the internet and everybody says to do this but this option is not listed in the settings. If the wrong type of micro-USB cable is being used would that determine whether or not that would show up?
It doesn't matter whether USB debugging is checked or not.
TIA, trying to help out a co-worker.

That option was removed from Android several revisions ago.

For the E4GT, you can download the Kies application and be able to move files to and from the phone in a limited fashion (Windows).

If you need more than that, then you might consider starting a new thread with more details.
