Root [US Celluar] Might have trashed my phone

mitbrown

Newbie
terrible first post, I know, but i'm in a fix.

Just rooted my USCC SCH-R530U (or galaxy S3), and eagerly I stumbled upon this wonderful info,
convincing me to edit my Build.Prop

first I noticed in recovery mode that I do not see the "Wipe Dalvik Cache," - only "Wipe Cache Partition".

-went ahead and hit "Wipe Cache Partition"-

I hit "Reboot System Now", and the phone does not boot. After the "Galaxy S3" screen, It stays black.

Please HAALP!

Hiya and welcome to Android forums!

Did you make a nandroid (backup) before you edited your build prop?

Or do you even have a nandroid laying around?

Can you access your custom recovery or download mode?

Just some basic questions so we'll know where to start off at :)

I made no preparation

I do have an Galaxy S ( S1 ?) sitting around

Yes, recovery mode or download mode still are accessible

Alright as long as recovery and/or download mode should make this an easy fix.

So no backups laying around? Probably the easiest fix would be flashing a stock rom (if that's the type of rom your already on/want.

I was on stock, yes, but want, not necessarily, I started this project for performance sake, and battery life, so stock is not my thing.

I'm stuck, here's what I have going; I got SDK installed, and updated the USB driver.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit

Now, when in recovery mode, my computer recognizes the device and shows "Android ADB interface" in User control panel

but when I Switch to bootloader, The device is not recognized ? or, something
I get no response from CMD with the "fastboot devices" command

I rebooted the PC, turned the phone off and back into recovery, same thing, ADB sees the device, but Fastboot does not ?? ugh

Just curious here, as long as you've got a working recovery why do you need to plug the phone into the pc?

Unless it's to transfer the rom onto the sd card?

Can't boot the device, and I don't see the SD Card when I plug in the phone.

what "working recovery"

this really sucks, I'm trying to understand what to do here, but so far it's alphabet soup.

The first instruction provided with the ROM was "use a custom recovery CWM or TWRP"

so I'm trying to get Clock Work Mod working, with little success

Okay boot into your recovery by holding down volume up power and home and tell me what recovery you have. It's either going to be Android system recovery or twrp/cwm as mentioned above.

Ick okay may be better off flashing back to stock via Odin.

Give me a few to track down am Odin tar that we can flash to get your phone back up.

Here's a link for the file you need for US Celluar:

Stock ODIN - TeamUSCellular

Download ODIN:

[Tools] Odin Version 3.04 - 3.07 and GS3 Drivers for Windows - xda-developers

Steps to flash via ODIN:

a. Make sure you have your tar file stored on your PC. (Extracted form your download)

b. Reboot your phone to Download Mode [shut down your phone, then hold down the Home + Volume DOWN Buttons and press the Power Button for about 2 seconds until a Warning screen appears. Press Volume UP to continue to Download Mode.

c. Connect your phone via usb and the first box at the top under ID:COM should turn blue and have some text in it. If you are using Download Mode on your phone for the first time then you will notice drivers being installed to use it.

d. The site or page you downloaded the file from will usually give you instructions to set Odin but if not you want to load boot/recovery/system files to the PDA location and have 'Auto Reboot' and 'F.Reset Time' ticked and nothing else.

e. Click on 'Start' to start the flash. You can see what is happening in the text box in the lower left.*

It says failed. screenshot attached

I had previously used another .tar to root the phone, and it worked fine.

I tried reloading it, and the phone still didn't boot. (Idk what this process is called) but it would seem that it is not overwriting the build.prop that caused the "non boot" issue to begin with

The phone has this in the top of the download screen:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:SCH-R530U
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS:Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
SW REV CHECK FAIL : Fused 1 > Binary 0

Just restarted phone and got a new screen: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.

US Cellular said they won't touch it, that's pretty awesome

I actually pulled the build.prop file with ADB, but when i went to push it, "access denied" something or other like that
