Help Please help- possible water damage

Lurker
I fell asleep and had my phone on charge. I have a small table above where my phone was, and there was a frozen bottled water. It was melted by the time I woke up, and there was some water around the area where it was. I think that some water may have dropped on my phone? I am unsure because it was completely dry when I woke up, and I took the back case off and there was no water. But when I put my phone on charge a messed up screen comes up and I can faintly see the battery charging symbol. I have taken the back cover off and taken the battery out, and placed the phone and battery in rice. Is this fine, or is there anything else I should do? I have had the phone for 2 weeks and this really sucks, please help :(

A long term sleep in a bed of rice might be your only answer if it did get water damaged.

Some people have said they left it there for as long as a week.

Water and cell phones are not best buddies. Sometimes you get away scott free, other times you end up with a phone with some minor personality problems. But there are, of course, the times where it's pretty much the death bell.

I'd leave it in the rice for a few more days before trying again. If you feel adventurous you could take it apart but if it's a new phone that would definitely kill any warranty you may have had with it.

Your other choice is to take it back to the store and plead mercy...

It rather depends. If memory serves most phones have some sort or water detection sensor that stores look at first when deciding on an exchange. If your phone does have one of these then it may not have been triggered given that it sounds like you may have had surface water damage as opposed to immersion.

Some 3rd party warranties seem to be more generous than store ones.

If, after a few days sleep, you still have no luck then take it back to the store and see what they say. Not advocating you lie to them because they that would be dishonest but if they don't ask then they may replace it with no problems.

My first Incredible had horrible reboot problems which I suffered through for several months. I just happened to mention it to a store rep when I was there looking at Xoom tablets, and she offered to replace it without even looking at it once. I didn't mention that I was rooted with S- Off because I didn't think it would was pertinent. Got my refurb 3 days later and am still using it as I type out this reply.

As always YMMV.
