Please help folks! I have been totally locked out my new s7 edge for couple of days now as I was using fingerprint to lock screen but an update downloaded during the night a few nights ago which meant my phone restarted and required the backup password to access it again. I couldn't for the life of me remember the password! So after numerous tries and waiting 60 mins between each attempt I was advised to rest the phone. Which I did.......but then.....was faced with the "Verifying your account" screen to put in my Google email and password. Problem is......I don't know this password either!!! Yes I know I'm a total idiot! But I did write down my passwords for these accounts only for my daughter to clean up ( for the first time in her life) and throw out the sheet I had written it all down on!!! I've tried various tricks online from Rootjunky etc and I'm still no further forward. I actually could cry I've only had the phone a couple of weeks and I'm totally lost without it. Any help would be soooo much appreciated guys!!'

Jfalls63 thanks so much for your reply! yes I tried that on my iPad however it kept telling me to do this on the device I'd logged in before which was the phone I was locked out of!! Anyhoo.. Long story short - realised I was putting in the wrong email address when trying to log into Google so I am thankfully now back into my phone!!!

Hard reset Galaxy S7 or S7 edge using recovery mode
  • Power off your device.
  • Wait for a few seconds while your phone is shutting down.
  • Press and hold the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons simultaneously to get into Recovery mode. (read: how to get into Galaxy S7 or S7 edge recovery mode)
  • Use Volume keys to navigate and Power button to select an option in Recovery mode.
  • Once in, from the main menu, using Power key, select wipe data factory reset.
  • If you want to clear app data cache too, choose wipe cache partition. Clearing cache often fixes various software related issues.
  • When done, go back to main recovery menu.
  • Select reboot system now and that’s about it.
