Root *please help* root

Hello
Please can anyone someone help.. I want to ROOT my HTC Hero I have googled & googled searched & searched, read & read.. there sees to be so many roms, ways to root blah blah my head is boiled.

Its as though no Hero user can agree on what is the best ROM..

any imfo at all will be much appreciated.

OK then, luckily that's easy to root.

If you go to the all things root sub-section of the hero section and open the htc hero rooting guide, you'll find a set of intrusions on how to root it, starting halfway down the thread.

Essentially it boils down to
- Rooting using a one click rooting app.
- Download ROM Manager from the market and it will give you the option to flash a recovery menu.
- Once you have a recovery menu you're ready to go.
 
Cool so I rooted it, was able to use system app remover to get rid of the crap.
Dunno about using a ROM caanot decide on what one... I am however having a nightmare installing app2sd it just keeps giving me a parce package error.
 
You wont be able to get app2sd running on a stock ROM.

What are you looking for in a custom ROM? Do you want to keep HTC Sense or do you want to try out 2.2/2.3?
 
I made a right pigs ear of it.. I was happy just having it rooted so I could remove footprints, peep, stocks and such crap I never used.. I removed the stock message app and that caused some issues.
Right now my phone is sat here booting up after I had to use the stock RUU to flash it and have been doing the updates.

As for a ROM I was wanting to keep sense but now not to sure if I am going to go down the root road again.

Yeah it's not a good idea to remove that; its still needed even with a second and app.

So the phone is working properly again now?
 
Yeah its working great.. I did the RUU from orange, all the updates, Rooted it added my apps, took out the crap BUT left the SMS app and its all working great
PHEW.

Let me see if I got it right: even though I managed to root my Hero (running HTC Sense, Android 2.1) I won't be able to move apps to SD?

The solution would be to flash a different ROM?
