Please help

Hi. I was hoping someone could help me figure out what app these icons are from. My girlfriend just noticed them, they're from screenshots I sent about a year ago and I have no idea what they're from. Thanks.

The only things I've messaged on as far as I can remember have been text, messenger, youtube, instagram, craigslist, indeed, varage sale, letgo, life 360, and words with friends. Some of those apps I dont think I even had on my phone at the time and as far as I can tell the icons I posted dont match any of them.

the thing is there really know sure way of knowing as there are millions of apps and websites that uses notification icons. the only sure way of knowing is looking in the phone's notification. but since the screenshot is from a year ago, it will be hard to tell.

we get these types of questions almost everyday here. and with million of apps and websites that uses notification icons, it will be hard to know for sure, unless it is from a very popular app like facebook or youtube for example.

just curious as to why you ask now?

Welcome to Android Forums, Snoot burgler!
My girlfriend just noticed them, they're from screenshots I sent about a year ago and I have no idea what they're from.
Am I correct in deducing that these mystery icons have upset your girlfriend? As in made her think you're doing things she wouldn't like? :o

As @ocnbrze has explained, it's very hard to pinpoint specific icons. Once in awhile someone here actually recognizes one from an app they, too, are using. And sometimes we have enough info that we can successfully locate an icon by searching for it.

But, as a rule, it's as I described in this other thread.

Thank you both, that's what I suspected. Yes, my girlfriend feels weird about them. I wasnt doing anything wrong and it's frustrating not being able to show that or even explain what happened. I dont use my phone for much and I only remember deleting a couple of apps. One was craigslist and I dont remember the other, I think something that came with the phone and I had no use for. I though maybe there were some specific circumstances that would cause an app I know about to use different icons than it usually would. Like if you preformed some action on messanger it might show a lock icon instead of or in addition to what it shows if you messaged someone.

You're welcome, Snoot burgler, and I do have some additional thoughts.

One has to do with not remembering which apps you may have had at the time. Go to your My Android Apps Play Store page, using a web browser, not the Play app, and you'll see a list of all your apps in date order, with the newest first. Scroll through them and see if anything rings a bell.

Yes, that definitely happens! I gave an example, Twitter, in that other thread.

Don't give up just yet. It's still possible someone will identify them.

Meanwhile, reassure your girlfriend that you're not doing anything shady, and just because you can't identify icons from a year ago doesn't mean you were doing anything then, either. :)

Thanks, that was a great idea. The shield was an app called anonymous web browser and the lock was from some Verizon security app. I still haven't identified the message looking one but I did download some other security and vpn apps at the same time and it's probably from one of them. I have to reinstall them and see after I make some space on my phone. I hadn't used any of the above apps and after I checkd them out they just sat on my phone until I deleted them so I never would have remembered without looking in google play. I'll come back and give an update if I find out where the message icon is from. I'm the meantime I have another icon I'd like to add to the hunt. It looks like maybe it's to do with history, I'll post it below. Thanks again for the advice, I havent checked out the Twitter post but I'm about to.

You're welcome! I'm really glad it helped, and you're figuring out what some of the perfectly innocent apps were. :)

If you're seeing an error message when you try to upload an image here, it's a known bug. The workaround is to resize the image down, making it smaller. Any image-editing software should have a 'scale' or 'resize' feature; use that and try 75% first to see if it'll take that, then smaller if not.
