Please help

I have a Samsung Galaxy S, and I've had it for only a couple of months. A couple of days ago, my phone froze. My phone freezes all the time, so I thought nothing of it, but this time it took almost an hour for it to reboot back on. Normally, my phone would have restarted less than 5 minutes after the initial freeze. Once it finally rebooted, I noticed several changes:

  1. The Home button does not work.
  2. Before this, when I pressed the Lock button, the screen would shut off like an "old school" television and make a "click" noise. (This is hard to explain. Hopefully someone out there knows what I'm talking about!) Now, when I press the button, there's no special animation. The screen just goes black.
  3. Also adding to #2, before the sudden reboot, I had a custom Lockscreen setting. I had a picture that I would drag across the screen to unlock the phone. Now, the screen just turns on without any customization.
  4. Data disables itself automatically after every couple of minutes.
  5. I had my clock (in the notification bar) set in a different colour and in the 24-hour format. Now, the colour has been set back to white and back to the 12-hour format.
  6. Before this, after holding the Power button, I would be given multiple options (i.e., "Turn on Airplane Mode," "Put into Silent Mode," "Restart Phone," etc.) Now, I only get two options: "Recovery" and "Power Off". *I've tried "Recovery," and it loaded this whole process... But I noticed no changes after + I have no idea what "Recovery" really does...

So, basically, all of my custom settings are erased, and I am clearly clueless.

I've uninstalled all of the apps that I've downloaded within the past week, I've tried restarting my phone and none of that has helped.

Hopefully someone can help me out? I'm very worried. Thanks so much in advance!

Have you tried a hard reboot?

Well it freezing all the time certainly means its had problems from the start. And if you were using a Task Killer, it makes things worse since it actually creates more problems.

1. If you were using a Task Killer, it would best to just reformat the phone to take it back to factory state and undo the damage it did.

2. Try to turn off the phone again and remove the battery for a couple of minutes and turn it back on.

3. Have you upgraded your phone to Gingerbread? The Galaxy S comes with Froyo or Eclair out of the box I believe.

Ha, ha, the drop down to a white dot in the center and then a line out to the edges. I've only seen this on custom roms, did you buy this phone new?

No, I was not using a Task Killer and I have not upgraded to Gingerbread. I'll try #2 again tonight and update this thread if anything changes!

Haha, hey! You know what I'm talking about, lol. My father's friend bought it off eBay and my dad ended up giving it to me. But I'm not sure how long it was before he lend it to my dad. :/

It sounds like you are running a custom rom, can you go to settins, about phone and give us a screen shot. If not, give us the best details you can (build, kernel, etc) as the help you need will be dependent on this information.
