1. How is your role that relates to Android?
I'm a consumer

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android?
The fact that it's a gadget that basically does almost everything my computer does but I can carry it around. Especially playing emulators is amazing.

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market?
Yes, it's the best selling at the moment.

4. What are the top challenges for Android?
The - sigh - App Store. It still has the most and best apps.

5. What are the top advantages of Android?
The simple fact that it's open and I can do whatever the hell I want with it, customize it just the way I want it.

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones?
My only problem is the lack of polished apps.

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why?
Basically a 9.5, this is my first real mobile OS and man am I loving it. There's just so much to do I can't name it :)

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why?
I check my mail, use stumbleupon, phandroid & engadget, watch youtube videos, play emulator games, my whole music library (16 GB SD), navigation and looking up things on Google (dictionary ftw). That's just a small portion :D
Oh, and I sometimes make calls with it!

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost?
I wouldn't make it more then 5 bucks.

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future?
Super robots, real Androids! On a serious side, I think they will serve the same purpose as now, but with even more functions until they change to actual quad-core processor phones.

11. “Life without a mobile” – Your comments please?
Basically no stumbleupon before going to sleep, no games at school break, no gadget to fiddle with and no Android Forums :)

Hope this helps and that I did it right :D

1. How is your role that relates to Android?

- I'm a smartphone user.

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android?

- The device itself is intuitive and easy to use, very configurable.

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market?

- Of course.

4. What are the top challenges for Android?

- Quality control at the points of manufacture and assembly.

5. What are the top advantages of Android?

- Over iPhone, configurablity/customization.. over Blackberry and Palm, as above and also better use of hardware.

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones?

- True push email as in RIM/Blackberry.

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why?

- That is device specific, as some Android models could not be as highly rated as others.. overall, 8.

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why?

- NoLed for sleeping device incoming notifications on the display. ScreenOff so that I don't have to use the power button to put it to sleep, icon on the screen instead. SMS, Gmail, Dolphin HD (default browser seems minimalistic compared to many others in Market). Camera. Phone. ADW Launcher and skins/icons. ..etc..

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost?

- No.

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future?

- I think they'll take on more and more functionality which we're used to seeing in other stand alone devices; there was a time when a camer or mp3 player in a cell phone seemed rediculous, let alone GPS and bar code scanners, etc. Not just more and more clever apps, but things such as garage door openers, remote control of home and office appliances, automobile security, etc.

11. “Life without a mobile” – Your comments please?

- I wish they had never been invented, to be honest. They're handy, but we're shamelessly growing dependent upon them. I love it when I realize I've forgotten mine and left it at home, sometimes I just leave without it intentionally, and I feel lost for a bit, then free. ;)

1. How is your role related to Android?

Consumer

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android?

It's pretty much a center of information for me wherever I go...emails, news, texts, calls, social networking, etc. I also like that it's simple and customizeable.

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market?

Definitely, the numbers speak for themselves.

4. What are the top challenges for Android?

Fragmentation is still an issue in my view. You have people on 2.1 clamoring for 2.2. Now 2.3 is the latest release on the market only for the Nexus S leaving the rest the option of rooting. Now you have Honeycomb 3.0 for tablets coming out and Ice Cream Sandwich (2.4?) for mobiles to make it interesting. Updates are in the hands of the manufacturers, not Google.

5. What are the top advantages of Android?

Simplicity, customization, integration with Google services.

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones?

There may be more important things but my gripe is the lack of a native music integration/management service like what iTunes is to the iPhone.

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why?

I would rate it a solid 9. I think solving #4 and #6 would be good steps towards a 10.

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why?

Whatever Twitter app I'm using at the time, Facebook, Gmail, Messaging, Google Reader to check up on the news, Phandroid app for forum access, Angry Birds as a time-killer, TinyShark for music, Maps to find my way around or places near me, and Titanium Backup/Root Explorer for my rooting needs.

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost?

No, I'm not a developer. I sure that's specific on the application being developed.

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future?

They're (phones and tablets) going to continue to replace our need for carrying laptops/netbooks around. They're going to be our communication and information hub.

11.

1. How is your role related to Android?
Consumer

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android?
Customization, relatively fast growth

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market?
It's on the right track, but has a way to go (to achieve Google's goals in actually turning a profit)

4. What are the top challenges for Android?
Getting onto enough handsets globally to actually start protfiting.

5. What are the top advantages of Android?
Open source

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones?
It is too heavily fragmented, we need to see some sort of standard (even though it is open source) for consumers to receive updates.

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why?
7 - first of all 10 would be perfect, and I don't think we are anywhere near that with anything. I think there are many ways that it can improve, the largest being it's heavily fragmented releases.

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why?
Handcent, cardiotrainer, new york times, sense weather some others, but those are my top two used. Handcent is simply convenient and present my sms/mms in the cleanest way IMO. Cariotrainer is great for tracking excersize. I use others too, but those two are used nearly every day.

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost?
Aside from my time and possible employee's time, I assume it is free. If we are talking what I need to be earning while developement is underway, starting out, probably nothing. That said I don't have the knowledge or desire to develope anything.

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future?
We are already more connected than we were ten years ago and this seems to be increasing, especially through coupling mobiles with social networking capabilities. If I really knew how things would change I could probably become very rich. I assume things will grow in that form for a very long time.

11. “Life without a mobile” – Your comments please?
Well, we certainly got along without them before, and I still think we can today. As with many things, they make life a bit more convenient. Obviously there is the ability to call someone almost anywhere that you are. More recently we have the WWW available to use, almost anywhere that we are.

1. How is your role related to Android? Just a user

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android? You can customize it to your own liking

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market? Well it is slowly catching up to apples iphone. But there is always something better in the future. Case in point we had the palm, winmo, blackberry, iphone, and now android. So who knows what new cutting edge stuff is in the future.

4. What are the top challenges for Android? Now that the Iphone is now with Verizon. They are going to have to bring their A game and same goes for apple. We should see great leaps in the future.

5. What are the top advantages of Android? Open OS. a GPS that you dont have to pay a monthly fee.

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones? Really dont know as I dont have the funds to buy many different phones to tinker with.

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why? I rate it as an 7 to 8. Nothing can get a 10 as there is nothing that is perfect and everything can improve.

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why? Google navigation, win amp( as it dont suck the battery dry when I stream howard stern.

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost? Not an app maker.

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future? I think it has already transformed the future.

Hello,

I am working on a report that briefs some executives in London about latest mobile trends and strategies. My presentation will portray Android as a future leader in Mobiles and Tablets. It will be helpful for me to get your expert opinion to present the data. So can you please answer the below questions?

I really appreciate your help! Thanks.

1. How is your role related to Android?

Consumer and Enterprise Solutions Architect

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android?

Open devices, which can be adapted to enterprise security requirements. Also, lack of a vendor lock in.

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market?

Yes, it just surpassed iOS in market share.

4. What are the top challenges for Android?

De-fragmentation of the market (ie all Android devices should act like Android phones), and certain enterprise readiness (ie Remote device wipe).

5. What are the top advantages of Android?

You are not locked into a specific vendor. Much like commodity PC's. You are not locked to IBM, HP, or even Microsoft.

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones?
Remote wipe and enterprise authentication.

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why?

8. It loses points for lack of remote wipe feature, and strong security mechanisms (ie, instead of google credentials, I should be able to select alternate auth modules, such as Active Directory, or the very least, LDAP).

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why?

Barcode scanner, Wireless Tether, Phandroid, and Gmail. Productivity, Productivity, Productivity.

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost?

That's an open question. If proper project management methodology and change control is employed: Yes.

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future?
11.

Thanks for the replies.. Valuable inputs
Can anyone working on Android please reply? This will be helpful for expanding the business.

Best Regards,

1. How is your role related to Android?

Consumer

2. In your view, what is exciting about Android?

The openness and customisability of the OS and the community feeling with its users

3. Do you think Android is successful in the mobile market?

very very successful. I don't know if it's overtaken iOS in the UK where your briefing is, but according to several sources it has in the US

4. What are the top challenges for Android?

The fact that I'm running version 2.3.1 and some people are still on 1.5, so fragmentation. Also I don't think we've seen the apps come out as they could yet... though that's not an OS problem as such

5. What are the top advantages of Android?

Customisability as in the exciting part

6. What is missing in Android that you see in other phones?

it's getting a lot better, but I don't think it's quite as smooth as the iPhone. I think better native apps are needed too

7. How do you rate Android on a scale of ten (one being minimum) and why?

a smooth 9 as a whole, you can make it work amazingly by changing things, but you shouldn't need to change things for it to be amazing

8. Which applications do you generally use in Android and why?

Gmail, Go SMS, Phandroid, couple of games, DoubleTwist, trying different keyboards every week and a battery of other apps I hardly use at all

9. If you need to develop and deliver an application on Android, do you know how much will it cost?

well depends if you're hiring a team etc... but if it's just a simple app you're developing yourself, it's about a tenner to put on the Market I think, and if you don't even want it on the Market then it's free :)

10. How do you think the mobiles will transform in future?

Well, I HOPE to see new battery technologies, we've already seen reports of them being timesed by ten, I would like to see a device that does everything, like the Atrix 4G is trying to demonstrate, I want to see 4G and 5G being pushed out quicker, let's hope for faster processing and something that just recharges from the Sun or something as in that Nokia concept video a few years ago

11.

..without them wouldn't be so bad would it? at least we'd prepare for things better rather than saying 'text me' for something

Agree. ;)

Heck, when I'm without mine I find myself reverting to a more relaxed, "what's the hurry about telling him/her this/that?" Or, "I'll be seeing so-and-so tomorrow, I'll let them know about this/that then."

..instead of grabbing my phone and firing off a text or email.

Also, if I'm bored and stay away from my computers and phone, I find myself doing more actual tasks either at work or around the yard, garage and house.

..instead of grabbing my phone and playing a game or looking through Market yet again. ;)

oh I think they do read these forums, they just don't contribute, or hide their faces when they do. at the very least try the Google forums

Don't assume that those that do read these forums. You'd need to get in touch directly with them if you want to survey them.

I'm assuming "working on android" also means people who use Android for work, and from the tenor of the OP, in an enterprise setting.

There are some of us here :) My executives are fighting tooth and nail for iPads, and I'm showing them every reason to NOT go to iPads (Vendor locking being the biggest thing).
